Windows XP to get prolonged shelf life

Microsoft has announced that it plans to extend its support of Windows XP, its nearly seven-year-old operating system, because many computers in the market today are simply unable to run Windows Vista. With the release of Vista early last year, Microsoft had planned to stop selling XP on June 30, 2008. Microsoft has decided to push that back because of what it calls a rise in the number of ultra low cost PCs.Microsoft XP launched in October of 2001 and since then has become the best selling operating system ever.

I guess too many users have caught on that Microsoft's new OS releases are buggy bloatware that force you to spend money to upgrade (or as has been mentioned, in some cases downgrade. LOL). If computer manufacturers gave people a choice between whether they would rather have XP or Vista on their new system, then I think Vista would have a hard time getting off the ground. A person in the market for a new computer should at least try out the new OS before buying. I wonder if there is a market for unused Vistas that came with new systems? Anyone try to sell their copy of Vista on eBay? No wonder there is so much pirating oF MS OSes going on. :(

hmm, i prefer xp over vista. no offense, but it is not ready for my older computer, and my older computer does not have what vista needs.

This is a wise decision on behalf of Microsoft because Vista is only of value if you have a new computer and peripherals such as printer or scanner. for the majority of users with systems a few years old it can be a total nightmare. Microsoft are currently working on Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, which is in RC2 at the moment and should be available as a stable download very soon.

I just don't think anyone wants to use Vista! I had initially heard January 2008 that is why I rushed out and bought my current PC. I didn't want to get stuck with Vista.
