At which age do you let your child to go into the fridge or cupboard for a snack without asking first? I am a mother of 4 kids 5 and under and my kids don't just go get a snack because they are not allowed. They know to ask, and they do, many times a day. I'm not going to leave them to their own devices to choose something they shouldn't be eating. Is this a normal attitude to have? My childrens health and what they eat is very important to me, they would have cake if they were allowed to just go in the fridge and choose their own breakfast. My friend lets her 4 year old go get food on her own and she doesn't usually eat junk food but too much of something. Like for instance she had a basket of strawberries. She got some and her mom had told her the day before that everybody gets to have some. Her daughter ended up eating all of them, sharing some with her litle brother, and saving 2 for mom and dad!

It all depends on each kids my oldests was allowed at about 4 while my youngest at 7 still has to check with me. My oldest has learned he can get fruits and water from the fridge at anytime but that is it without permission.

Well my little brother is 11, and my mom still does not let him eat whatever he wants. If she did he would never eat healthy. I think my mom stopped making me ask about the food I could eat when I was about 11 or 12. I think its okay to let them stop asking if they realize what is good for you and what is bad for you, and that you need a balance between the two.
