I guess in a way I was. For the last 7 tears I have been a stay at home mom and I do daycare from my home. I have watched around 12-15 kids over the years. Including my two boys. It can be hard but its rewarding as well. I have potty trained all the kids who have come trough the door except the 2 one year olds. I have taught them all how to use there manors, eat with silverware, taught them to dress them selves, taught them there abc's and 123's. The normal things you teach a child. Some of the kids I watched for 2-3 years and feel like a second mom to them. Even now that I dont watch them If I see them somewhere they run up to me and give me a hug and jabber away about what they have been doing. Its a wonderfull feeling!! ~May The Kisses Of An Angel Cover And Protect You Always~ Copper

LOL. I just noticed I made a mistake in the second sentance. It should read: For the last 7 years...not tears. ~May The Kisses Of An Angel Cover And Protect You Always~ Copper

I used to be a caregiver in a group home. For mentally challenged men. We helped and oversaw their daily lives. Helped them with chores, meals and meds. I am a caregiver of sorts to my boyfriend/husband, Bruce. He has Multiple Sclersosis (as I do). When he has an episode, I take care of him as he does me.

Well I never been a "professional" caregiver unless you count taking care of my son ;) Caregivers have have my respect though, it takes a big heart to do that!

I am currently the full-time primary caregiver to my dad and part time caregiver for my mom. I determined long ago (soon after the first time I burned out) that being a family caregiver is the highest stress unpaid job in the world. I quite honestly would not change being a caregiver for them, however, despite how hard it can get at times. And I would also do it all over again if I had the chance to back up and choose rather or not to be my dad's primary caregiver. For all the hardship and struggle and burnout and everything else, it is in its own way rewarding and gives me a chance to spend as much time as possible with my parents.

I am a caregiver for my partner with ALS. She can't do anything for herself so I do it all. It is by far the hardest job in the world. It is like having a child for life but is much bigger. I wouldn't change what I am doing for anything because I love her to pieces and would do ANYTHING for her. Being a fulltime 24/7 caregiver really takes it out of you though. There is so much sacrifice involved and so much reward also. If definitely takes a unique personality to do this. God Bless all families that they should all have family members that are willing to share in this job. Its not easy and the caregiver needs a break now and then. I also feel the government should pay a family member to care for this person. Much cheaper and better than putting them in a private home or nursing home which most people don't want to have to go to. I sure wouldn't.

no not in the sense of being a care giver to an elderly person, but I have of course been a care giver to my son all his life just like any other parent. we nurse them back to health, we support them, advocate for them, teach them, we do everything for little children and then prepare them to become independent and grow up.

I haven't been a caregiver for a family member yet, but I have worked as a caregiver many times in the past twenty years I was a foster parent for years for medically fragile children, I worked as an aide in a MRDD school. I also worked in assisted living homes as a caregiver, I attended nursing school, and I did home health care with the elderly. So much caregiving. I thoroughly enjoyed it all. I would do it again.
