Biofuels, Are they Really Good for the Environment?

According to the recent article in Time Magazine they are not. Corn Ethanol releases as much pollution as petroleum fuels. Biofuels made from Corn and Soybeans are driving the prices for those crops up which is leading to the clearing of the rainforest in the Amazon which actually acts as a carbon sink and when it is cleared it releases loads of carbon into the atmosphere. They say the only biofuel that is any good for the environment at all is sugar cane, its clean burning and the Sugar industry isn't using up a lot of land to grow their crops.
They also said the biofuel train in politics is hard to stop. No politician wants to speak against biofuels because of Iowa (which evidently is an important caucus state) and they can't run for president if they knock biofuels cause it is big industry in Iowa.
What do you think about biofuels and what do you think can be done about this awful trend of clearing the rainforest?

We as a society are being blackmailed by the environmental groups. Several years ago McDonald's used paper wrappers for their hamburgers. The Environmentals wanted to save the trees so they used plastic containers and were developing plastic containers made from Corn Starch which would have been biodegradable. A boycott was threatened and McDonald's went back to paper wraps. If you follow the environmental movement you will see their causes are full of junk science and scare tactics. Save the Trees - Except we have more trees now than when Columbus arrived. They protested Nuclear power claiming it would lead to radiation poisoning and kill us. Then it was the greenhouse effect that would lead to a new Ice Age. Then we were scared with Global Warming and as more and more evidence came forth and showed the foolisness so global warming became Man Made Climate Change. All along we are slowly losing our freedom. Bio Fuel is just another step in the process control. Bio fuels are more expensive and a poorer fuel than oil based fuels. Even Al Gore is positioning himself to make a fortune with this Climate Change hoax.
