I would be willing to bet that you are under 40 years of age. Prior to the 1990's smoking was socially acceptable. Even cool. We were unaware of the health risks then and by the time it was confirmed, it was too late to stop the addiction. Some have managed to quit and I applaud their success. But some of us still smoke. I tried to quit several times, but gained so much weight that the weight became the real health risk.
If you don't smoke now...don't start. But please don't preach to us from a soapbox about the dangers. Smokers (adult smokers) are well aware and well informed of this nowdays. It is a choice that some make.

Hmmm. Persons those who smoke always try to quit it but then again it is the addiction which makes them to come again for it.
Whatever may be the reason people who want to smoke always have excuses to continue their habit. People drink and have an excuse to say so. People smoke and have an excuse.
There are lots of other good things in life which can calm your nervous and give you a soothing relaxation but people wont adapt to it because it is tough for them.
I dont know why people defend smoking may be they should be escorted to the cancer ward or bronchities ward (disease of lungs) ward. They know that it is going to affect them.
BYE THE WAY I SMOKE BUT ONLY ONE AFTER I TOOK A VISIT to cancer ward. Take care guys try to quit never make it a fashion.

I was visiting someone in hosital last week with cancer. They never smoked. In the bed opposite was a lady who had lung cancer and hadn't smoked since the age of 16. She is now 86...and the doctors blaming it onto smoking is absurd. Only one lady there was a smoker and she also worked in a car paint factory; again she was in her late 70s. There was a girl who was just 22 with cancer too again who never smoked.

In my opinion, people smoke of many reasons. They do not really care about health of themselves and others around them. Some who are having conscience will smoke only in restricted area so that others won't inhale the exhaust smoke. The most unfortunate group of smokers are those who got addicted. They really have problem quitting. There are other smokers who smoke because they think it's cool and could release their stress.

Once they get hooked into it and do it for a long time they find it hard because they can not imagine life without it, they become comfortable with it. They are so used to having it every day and carrying their packets with them everywhere, what else can they do when they found something they need to do because the have been doing it for some time and it has become a habit. Habits sometimes can be hard to break.
