No LIpstick? Shampoo traveling? You might not want to do these things!

Had to laugh on this one... taking beauty and frugalness a bit far I think.. I was watching a show called 60 ideas in 60 minutes. They were giving 60 ideas ofr saving money and time. Some were okay, good idea. others were , "tell me something I and everyone else, don't already know" and others were, okay, that's a bit to far.
The one that I thought was a bit to far, was if you are out of lipstick, just take your childs non-toxic, washable magic marker (or whatever brand as long as it is non-toxic and washable) and use it as lipstick! It still soaks into your lips, I'd think, and even dry them out. Yeah, this one is a bit to much!
Another one was to put shampoos and conditions in a plastic zip lock baggie when traveling. Then cut the corner and squeeze when needed. Then you can throw the baggie away instead of hauling the bottle around. Okay, fine, but if one is so concerend that the bottles are going to come open, what about being concerned that thos little baggies are going to get punctured or the zip lock pulled open! And if you dont use the whole baggie at one wash, its kind of gross to have that baggie laying wherever until next time.
Sometimes, frugal really gets a bad name for no reason other than to cause kaos!!!

That is a little over the top and it definitely takes frugal to another level...

Have a great day!

Wow, that really is taking things too far!!! I really don't get the lipstick/marker pen one. You can buy a lipstick or a lipgloss really cheaply these days, it won't be great quality but it will decent enough to get you by if you're really strapped for cash. Certainly better than using a marker pen! I think i'd rather have bare lips if the marker pen was my only option. Personally i have no many lipsticks, glosses, stains, balms and other lip stuff that i don't think i'd run out even if i didn't buy a new for for several years! But if i ever do i wouldn't borrow a kiddies marker pen.

I know! Isn't that the dumbest thing? I don't wear lipstick as I hate that it always comes off, tastes bad and smears off so there is nothing but an outline on your lips! But I do use lip balm as mine get dry - but Avon has the best - Care Deeply - that stuff is like a magic healing stick or something! Instant dryness relief! I've even used it on dry spot on my face and come morning, nice and moist! I stock up when it is 99ยข a stick.
No, a marker is definately not the way to go!

I don't like neither one of those ideas. The baggie thing would be a big mess. The marker thing would make you look like a clown. I won't be trying any of these out, who in the heck come up with these. They must have been having an off day.

I was totally shocked - it was a show called 60 Ideas in 60 minutes - and to save time and money. Maybe if you'd never had to do these things you might have gotten a few ideas, but most of them were stupid. Like these two! I mean, come on... a marking pen for lipsitck? When they showed it's "stay tuned" thing, they showed a little girl coloring on the coffee table and the host said something about out of lipstick and I thought, surely they aren't going to tell us to use crayons! Well, they didn't!

LOL I have to agree with you. Sometimes in the quest to be frugal we find ideas that are a bit too much:)
I would not use the marker - even if non toxic - at all.
Now the shampoo and conditioner idea is not as bad as it lock, but it depends on the circumstances and what you have.
I somehow ended up with a huge number of very small zipped plastic bags. I"m not sure but I think I got them at the "Arts Junction" a nice place where we can find or send things that can be used for arts with kids. Sometimes factories send stuff too.And I got this two boxes with those 2.5 x 5 inches bags.
I found out that they were good for that same purpose. Individual portions of shampoo/conditioner or even shower gel. I even used them with liquid detergent :)
It was easier than to walk to the showers with bottles of this and that.
It was also easier to pack and on the cases where I was worried that they might be pierced or leaking I used two.
I never used the bigger ones, but there are some that are quite small - I think they're snack ones - that might be used for the same purpose.

The point is good, just not the plastic bag! I can just see so many "accidents" happening with those. If I want a smaller travel sized bottle of shampoo -I'll buy a travel size plastic bottle at The Dollar store and fill that. Now to use them for the laundry detergent while going to the laundry matte - that is a good idea. you can control where it goes and all that.

Yeah I think that's a bit ridiculous. Why not just stock up on things when they are on sale and then you won't run out. Or shop at the Dollar store and then nothing is ever more than a dollar. You can almost always afford a new lipstick if it is less than a cup of coffee. Also another money saveing lipstick tip is to own a lip brush, then you can use the very very last of your lipstick after it is too small to apply driectly from the tube anymore.
