i have always heard about this and even watched a special episode in BBC (i think it is) when i was in china and it really devastated me to see and hear such situation. last friday, i was watching oprah and this is the subject. i cant help but cry when i see dogs and cats being treated in such a horrible way. how can someone treat a life in such a way? i feel if they want to make it as a living at least give respect to the moms (dogs and cats) and dont treat them like a slave and or just a piece of crap. i dont know what kind of person do such thing but in my human nature point of view it is sick. i wish i have the money and the capabilities to save all the hurting life in this world but i cant an di can only start one at a time. when we are in china, i keep seeing puppies for sale at the street and even to public markets. i dont understand why they mistreated such animals. we bought our dog in one of these place, we cant buy them all coz we are not a resident there and we cant bring them all home. our dog when he is a puppy is like a malnourished dog and his first food with us is like his very first food. i cried knowing there are so many dogs out there not having the same meal. now our dog is here is with us in US and still part of him are in such trauma, i cant imagine how much of it is being carried by those moms and puppies in the puppy mills. i hope our government can do something about it, i know human life is more important and there is so much of it in this world that they think animal is just second rated but to me a life is a life and we all exist in the same world so we should all protect each other than destroy one another. have you heard a puppy mills in your area? what are your thoughts about it? takecare!

I did a discussion too about puppy mills..actually did one some six months ago, then just did another one in relation to Oprah's show this past Friday. I'm glad she took on this issue, since she has such a wide audience, in the millions, and I bet not too many people were even aware of the kind of thing that goes on with puppy mills The best way to get involved though is politically..go to the ASPCA and Humane Society of the US and you can sign up as an animal activist and get alerts..they even have petitions one can sign against puppy mills. As far as the dogs and cats sold in markets in china..hate to say it but many of those animals aren't really sold for just being pets, but as food too, in fact there is a big market also in the Philippines for dog meat and the Humane Society even got after this as well

hello, yes i am happy that oprah did it coz she is watched not only in US but most of all all over the world, i hope this kind of awareness will help others understand such thing and make it illegal. i am aware of it but not really fully, just known it as a black market in china (when we are there) and i know it happens too in philippines and korea (not sure about the others) i just know that the 3 countries i mentioned practiced killing dogs as a form of food. i will try to be part of the site you mention and hopefully i can learn something from them too. anyway, appreciate that you are having the same views and feelings regarding this matter. it is nice to know there are still humans who really care. takecare and keep it up!

There are puppy mills everywhere, and nothing to do about them, because they are legal, but I think they are very unhumane. I also think if your gonna breed dogas as a business, they should be treated better than living their lives in cages, and only purpose of having babies.

i didnt know it is legal till i watch the show, i thought it is not coz it is a form of abuse and it shouldnt be allowed anywhere in the world. i have watched how they treated the moms and the puppies and it is really heart breaking, i cant imagine a dog living in such environment, such a cruel place to be!. yes, i have no problems making it as a business but make sure that they know how to take care of them and treat them right as they bring them money just be fair. i wish the government will do something about it though. anyway, thanks for taking some time to reply to my post. appreciate it!

There's a puppy mill near where I live, and nothing has been done about it. There's not enough resources for an animal control officer here, and crimes involving humans are more important. It breaks my heart. I hate that human greed takes precedence over the animals' well-being. That's all it is, greed. You can make make money as an dog or cat breeder, but if you do it responsibly and care for them well it's not going to be a lot right away, and you need patience. People who run puppy mills don't care about their animals at all, only the money they bring in. I agree we should protect each other including animals. There's already so much suffering in the world, there's no need to add more.

hi frostbitten, thanks for participating, it must be hard to live around your area knowing such place exist, it will be very hard for me knowing i cant do nothing about it. yes, it is only for money and that is all they care, i wish pet buyers and owners will do research where the dog comes on first before they buy it, MAYBE that can help the puppy mills owner realize they are not gonna get any money if they continue doing that. i love to raise dog but i can honestly say it will be very very hard to sell a dog not unless i know that the buyer is a good person and that the dog will be in good hands. i think more and more people now are more driven by money and not love, sad but true. i feel part of it is because our economy is not doing well same thing with other part of the worlds. YES, too much suffering in this world, i wish somehow the human will know how to be better for the best of all. thanks again and takecare!
