What do you think about this quote? How does it apply to your life. My partner was told this quote by his grandparents. He loves it, he definately applies it to his life, he is very independent and he only trusts a few select people other then his own family. I like to paddle my own canoe and be an independent person, however I think I trust more then just a few people. Which can be a disadvantage at times, as people have let me down in the past. But I like to give people my trust at first untill they prove otherwise. So what do you think?

hi kiran-i think that is a wise quote-in my own life i am very independant and paddle my canoe in virtually everything i do-though my downfall is i trust people too much so learn the hard way, i find it hard to love many people until i really get to know them or i know they are genuine people-guess cos like you i have been let down in the past too-your friend littleowl

It is difficult to learn the hard way, I wish people did not let me down in the past as I think it is great to trust people and form close friendships. You do sound like you paddle your own canoe, I think it is great to be independent and know that you can survive and do things on your own.

I like to be my own person, so I do 'paddle my own canoe'. I don't trust too many people either, so that part also applies to my life. But I fall down with the first part. I'm afraid I don't love many, although I suppose that depends on how you define many really! I have a few close friends whom I love, but I'm not one of those people who showers affection all over. It's a good quotation, and a good one to live by.

I think it rings true for me except for the trust part. Like you, I give my trust unless they prove they are not worthy of my trust. My husband's the opposite and doesn't trust anyone unless they prove they are worthy! As far as paddling our own canoe...we both believe in it strongly...lol
