My dad opens my mail

So I normally don't stay at home, I live with my boyfriend for the most part.
When I do come home I check the mail holder to collect all of my mail come to find its either open, or open in my dad's brief case.
I just feel like that is a total violation of privacy, and whatever I get in the mail its none of his business. He will open it reguardless, like credit card bills, bank statements, personal mail, etc. It absolutely drives me nuts and he says its fine because he cares about me. But there is nothing in the mail that he would be disappointed by or that would make him want to help. I feel like if he cared about me he would respect my space.
Any of you expierence this with the people you live with?

totally agree, its a way to control you--sounds like your at an age old enough to be on your own and learning independence but your dads actions seem absolutely belittling and disrespectful of your space and your self confidence. Its almost to say that your space does not matter as long as your in this house but when I lived with my father alone as a teen that rule was PARAMOUNT. Dont touch my stuff I dont touch yours. Your totally right in trusting your feelings on this one.

I do, but usually it is a matter of not looking closely enough at who the letter is addressed to. if it is a big trouble for you, since you are not living with your parents, why not have your mail delivered to where you are living? your father should not have to be responsible to manage your mail for you. how is it you come to know it is in his brief case? is his brief case not a private place that should not be looked into?

Thanks for the comment, I did consider opening up a box at the post office or just having it forwarded but I'm not sure yet.
I found out that he keeps it in his brief case because when I come home and ask for my mail he tells me its in there. So I'm not invading his privacy, he let me get it with his permission.

i am totally against people opening up my mails, all my mails and going through my personal things. i do not allow it even it was my parents or my girlfriend or friend unless i allow thm to. you are old enough and you dad opening your mail is wrong and the reason he gave is not the actual reason why he opens your mails. he wants to control you even at your age of reason. tell him to stop it. it does not give him the right to open or go through your stuff even though he is your dad.

This would irritate the crap out of me...I'd be getting a post office box real quick. It sounds to me like he's just nosy which alot of parents tend to be when it comes to their kids...but he still shouldn't be opening your mail.

I've told other people about it and they are just like its fine he cares about you. I just think that has nothing to do with it hes just nosy and its very irritating!

I never the experence,because I did not live with my parents for long time.and I will with my friends.and we dont look any others' mails.
anyway,look personal mails is not good well to express his/her cares.

never mind dear it happens when some one cares a lot for you....
and u said that nothing is there to disappoint your father than why to worry
dear....
by the way if you don't like him to do so than simply change your password.
or else create a new mail id in which u will feel like secured...and keep your privacy....
