I just need to vent so I hope my friends here at my lot don't mind letting me vent a little bit. I work at a convinience Store as a cashier. About a week or so ago we had $50 come up missing out of our change fund (this is where we break change for customers if we don't have enough money in our drawers) I have worked there for 8 months and they have never had an issue with me. Well today when I walked in I was told "there is $80 in the Change Fund and there had better be $80 in the Change Fund in the morning"really nastily. I totally took this as being accused of being a thief. Those are fighting words with me. Now keep in mind this come up missing when a new girl was working on her SECOND night. Come on and use your common sense. The only reason I didn't walk out is because I can't afford to walk out on my source of income without having something else lined up but I was SOOOOO angry and still am. What would you do if you were in the same situation?

Well this is funny because the same situation happened to me before, I worked in retail also.
So during the holidays the registers would always fill up and managers would have to do cash drops. I would count the money, record it, and then put it in the bag for the manager to pick up.
Well after this, the store director found out that most of the money that was supposed to be collected from the drops had been missing. So its was basically thousands of dollars worth. I was the new girl at the time working a seasonal job so of course they accused me of stealing it, I was appauled! I told them I was simply innocent and can try to find any evidence of me doing it because it was impossible.
Later they came to find out who it actually was, the manager, and they apoligized.
Don't let it get to you that they accused you, because you know you are incocent. They can't find any evidence on you because its impossible since you didn't do it. So just sit back and watch them find the right person and they will feel pretttty stupid!

I also work in a convenience store and have been there for a very long time off and on. We had this happen and my drawer began to be short with no explanation almost each week...by 20.00 or so. My boss began getting very upset. I am spacy and over the years on occasion I would type something wrong into the register causing my drawer to be over or under. This was different. It was happening regularly. i am well known for my blondness. I am spacy but not dumb. there is a difference. After my boss began questioning me, I began paying attention. Consistently my drawer was off after working after one certain lady. this lady always had my drawer in and was ready to run when I came in. My daughter also worked at the store. One nite I counted and double counted the drawer that I set up for myself the next nite. I asked my daughter to verify it. she did. I asked her to go in when this lady was busy and count my drawer and verify again what was in it. she did and it was 20.00 less. Just to be sure we did this test 3 times and every time it proved that this lady was stealing from my drawer before I got there. She was also stealing from the change but only on nites I worked and taking it after she counted and verified the correct amount on her paper work. We were good little detectives and proved her. I've been in that business for many years and there are a number of ways to prove who is doing this stuff. Do you have cameras? We did not at the time but one thing i do know is a theif is a theif. They may target one person but they don't just steal from one spot. I g ot my customers to watch her as well. Come to find out she was stealing from her own drawer. They dropped correct change on the counter and witnessed her not ringing it into the register and putting it in her pocket from outside the window.

Mistake can happen any time in our work life.I am also working in a accounts departmrnt of a company.Ther are lot of preasure on me.According to me if you maintain double entry accounting system you may prevent your mistake. And dont trust anybody in the office, they are your office friend not your close friend.Whenever you are in your job, just concentrate your job and nothing else.
Right now dont leave the job.Because you have to proove that you are not guilt.

It is always hard when someone is thieving, and you are on duty too. I used to work in a pub and sometimes a new person would start and the takings would be lower than they should be, we were all under suspicion. In the end it got that bad that we were all assigned to our own tills, at the end of each shift the tills were counted, each time we came on duty we were assigned different tills, eventually the culprit was found to a process of elimation. When the finger is pointed at you though and you know you are innocent you get so angry and just want to say stuff it but then that could be taken as a sign of guilt too. I felt targeted because at the time I was a single parent and did have money problems but when it was found out it was not me then I was given a full apology.

Hi Marcia. I know how you feel being accused of loosing the change fund. And in your situation, one thing I learned is dont go on hastily making decisions like quitting your job for the wrong reason. I learned that the hard way especially like you said, you have no fall back. But the most important thing is, dont leave because it may let them think more that it you who is the culprit. And if you leave, you are just letting them win the battle. Fight right by doing your job diligently and prove to them it was not you who got the change fund. You can suggest a turn over sheet of change fund available after each shift so that nothing can be blamed on you. As they say, let the truth come out and as I always think, a worse karma is up for those who do wrong. Just stay yourself and continue to work honestly.

I couldn't work for something that didn't trust me.
If it happened to me, I would come right out and ask the boss what he was thinking and get it all on the table to clear the air.
He doesn't sound like much of a manager to me.
