So... Do you still think that you need money to be happy?

This question does come up quite often on myLot...
And I have been arguing that... while you need money for basic survival... lots of money won't necessarily make you happier.
Now I have the facts to back it up...
Richer, healthier but not happier
After 30 years of unprecedented economic growth, the British are richer, healthier - but no happier than in 1973.
The latest Social Trends, the annual survey on the state of the nation from the Office for National Statistics, looks at how Britain has changed over few decades.
It shows that household income has gone up by 60%, and household wealth has more than doubled, in the past twenty years.
The main reason for the rise in wealth has been the increase in house prices.
But the growing wealth has not led to greater happiness.
In 1973, 86% of people said they were satisfied with their standard of living, while in 2006 85% were satisfied.
The figures follow trends from around the world that show that happiness and satisfaction do not correlate with average income once countries reach "middle-income" levels.
And one in six UK adults reported that they suffered from a variety of mental health problems in the latest survey, of which the largest category was "mild anxiety and depression."

Aussie this is quite an interesting statistic and having watched a movie last night with Will Smith based on a true story called "The pursuit of happyness" in which his real son played his son in this movie, and how he struggled was very good to watch. I do agree with the statement that money does not always buy happiness and to me surviving in todays' society is more of an issue. The increase in house prices as gone way over the top but when you look around the places we drive past some of the houses are so massive that wonder if they are built this way to "lose" their children in them! lol Living comfortably and just being able to pay bills is the first thing for us and the rest is a bonus. Holidays......what are they? lol

Hello,Aussies! money and happiness are two different things.money may bring for you lots of assets but at the sane time it will bring an array of diseases and make you unhappy at the long run and create as much enemies for you.so in my opinion we should earn money in fair ways and spend judiciously so that we will be in peace and automatically happiness would follow us.thank you.

The things that make me happy money can't buy. The things money can buy don't make me happy. That's how I see it anyway.
It saddens me how many people spend their leisure time shopping. They buy new clothes so they can wear them the next time they go to the shopping mall to buy more new clothes, and so they never have enough new clothes and are never happy with what they have. And they will always want more money to spend on new clothes.
Being happy has nothing to do with having more money, though you may feel unhappy because you don't have enough to live on.
