Alternative Fuels

Well most of us know that we are in a enrgy crisis that is only going to get worse. Gas prices continue to rise as the oil reserves around the world are being depleted. We have peaked oil production a long time ago and now we are on a steady decline. Soon and very soon our fossil fuel resources, particularly petroleum will be eliminated. Scientists have been looking into alternative fuels, but which one is best and which one is most efficient? Hybrid vehicles definately cut back on oil use but they do not eliminate the need for it completely. Ethanol is another possibel solution, but it takes more energy to create then it does produce. Coal liquification is another option. It was used in World War II to produce oil in Germany. It would be pretty expensive and we would have to find a way to clean up some of the emmissions. Hydrogen vehicles have also been brought to the occasion. The fuel would be cheap and the only emission would be water. The only problem is the fuel source. We can't just go drill for hydrogen. It is very difficult to isolate the hydrogen to form the fuel. Finally, we have electric vehicles. Electric motors are by far the most efficient motors. One big fall back with them is the distance that can be traveled. New developments are being made to increase travel distances with electric vehicles. My question to all of you is: what do you thinks is the best alternative fuel choice? If it is one I have not mentioned feel free to post about it and inform me. Thanks for the input.
