I know it sounds gross, but gargling warm salt water really does soothe a sore throat better than anything else I have ever tried.

I usually try to make hot tea with lemon and put little extra sugar on mine.

Its that time of year, My son and I have one too, Now im getting all stuffy. I hate colds. I drink TheraFlu for sore throats and it realy helps.
