How much you spent on your glasses?

I was unfortunately near-sighted since my high school.I have to make friends with glasses even though I really do not want an obstacle standing on my nose. Then it goes to the issue of buying a pair of glasses. The price varies upon the basis of glasses' quality.People always keep it in mind that high price glasses is out of question of high quality which surely helpful to your eyes, and vice versa. I spent almost $70 on the new glasses.Ok,it is rather expensive to me in my city. The reason for me to buy such an expensive one is I have only two eyes and I have the responsities to prevent them from getting worse. Now it's your turn,if you are also glasses' friend, tell me how much you buy your glasses?Expensive of cheap? Why?

I do indeed wear glasses but only for reading and generally only reading a newspaper, I do need them some times when using the internet when I tired but not that often. Unfortunatly my glasses cost me £120 or $240US eeks! but I did get a second pair free - oh joy!! Anyone who reads this from the UK will recognise this statement "should've gone to specsavers" lol :)

"Should've gone to specsavers,as I understand, may be you people in UK do have a priority of buy a new pair of glasses and get an extra one for free,am I right then? How interesting and attractive to me even when I am in badly need of saving money on glasses!I bought a newly one in other day.It cost me much and I have to say goodbye to meat for a week and then my account could be balanced accordingly.Oh,I might as well travel to UK in the near future.A better choice for glasses only.

I'm near sighted as well, and just recently I had to have my prescription changed because the vision in my left eye changed. Recently I only spent around $50 or $60 on a new pair, but the pair that I have right now while I'm waiting for my new one's to come in were around $120. I don't mind the price...but it would be nice if the screws wouldn't work their way out so easily. So now I've decided to give plastic frames a chance to see how they hold up :)

$50 or $60 or even $120 is not too high a price in US,right? But considering foreign exchange,I would say even $50 is rather a big number in China, equal to RMB400.That can not be compared in this way, anyhow.

I have good conditioned eyes, no problem with it but I sometimes use glasses with no grade though. Support of my eyes when I'm in front of computer and the aircon or some fan is in front of me too. It usually hurts my eyes. I bought my glasses with light gray shades and I spend few bucks to change it into plain colorless. It has black rim and small. Just simple and it's cheap.

Thank you first for your comments! Oh,your glasses are almost three time more expensive than mine.Indeed,I can not afford it.You know,it takes me half of my month salary.$70 is enough, and I believe quality problem is not likely in one year.I do hope my salary will increase three times more than present by the year 2009,Haha.

I am really indignant about the getting worse of my eyes! I was near-sighted when I am only 12. The glasses are following with me from then on. I am wearing the 9th pair of glasses now. You may know the average price of a pair of glasses in China, so I have spent over $600 on glasses. Whatever, I am tired of spending energy on glasses. So I came to the hospital at last. An operation was taken on me. It cost me $450. However I was very happy without glasses but see everything clearly! The indignant thing I said on the begining happened at last! The operation was defeated half a year later! I still wear a pair of glasses now!

I am really sorry to hear that!As a matter of fact,it's not a worst thing to wear glasses. Some times it is an ornament to our looks, right?A pair of glasses makes you look polite and knowledgeable, something like a scholar.Haha.For most, people are more content with that. Don't be so indignant, you know that makes no sense.Take care of your eyes then and never let them be hurt again !

The last glasses that I have cost me $125 and it seems that I needed another pair since my vision is getting worse again. I don't mind if I have an expensive glass what is important with me is that my eyesight is being corrected. And as you say so we only have two eyes so why bother to buy a cheap one if your feel better having the epensive ones?

The price may be the extrem that I can afford at present. So I think of whether buy it or not for a long time.I came to the glasses shop three times, the result is I was convinced finally by myself to buy that pair of glasses. Do not think that I over exaggerate the case. It's true. The glasses must be one luxury to me currently. Fortunately,I made the right choice, didn't I?

I've had quite a few number of glasses. I normally wear contacts now but when I have purchased my glasses, because I still need them from time to time. I recently bought to pairs while I was stationed in South Korea. One was about $200, and I just couldn't help myself. I have to make sure they don't look funny on me, and over in Korea they have most of the ones that are kind of thick and that just isn't my style. But I also bought another pair because they were orange and I figured it would be the only time I would ever get a chance to find an orange pair of glasses. And they were a little thick but not too bad, so I bought those, but they were only $20 and then $40 for the lens themselves. And happy with my decision to buy them because they actually look kind of nice on me.

ive had to wear glasses all my life pretty much.. and finally decided to skip the welfare-rat-rack and get a decent pair that looked good on me, and for the first time in my entire time of being blind as a doorknob, i LOVE the way i look in these things. super thin impact & scratch resistant transitions (means they turn into wicked dark sunglasses when yer outside, and have a UV filter to protect yer eyesight)lenses, and the coolest frames ever. not including the exam, i blew a little over 400 bucks for these babies, and am so very happy i did! not really understanding why you have to make friends with people who wear glasses now just because you wear them tho...

i am now wearing a high quality eyeglasses, but also cheap i only spend 12 dollars, im very fortunate, my ophthalmologist is a very close family friend, she only asked for that said amount for the check-up, the thick lens, and anti radiation on it and for the very stylish frame, originally that 70 dollars, just imagine how big the discount she gave, im very fortunate, indeed!

The glasses now I am wearing are the fourth one. I am 27 and I was near-sighted when I was a junior high school student. I used to think that a boy wearing glasses is cute when I was a kid. But I regret for that and pay for my poor sight. People used "four-eyed frog" to mock one who is wearing glasses. But nowadays it's less been heard and there's so many near-sighted people in China that it's hard to get a friend without glasses. The price of a pair of glasses here in RMB is not high in a developed country's standard. I usually pay $25 for a pair of glasses, neither to high nor to low. Compared with the inconvenience and trouble they bring me, there's nothing.

I have ever had a problem with my glasses. In the past, I usually broke my glasses too much for me can't remember how many times. But now I used glasses by plastic. And it don't break more.

I once had an accident with them and severely damaged them so i had to spend and extra $50 to get them fixed.. but they're woth every penny!! :) (FYI I come from a very sunny country so you where sunglasses most of the time)

Under my private health insurance I am entitled one pair of glass absolutely free (only up to the value of AUD $200, including frame and glass). Well for up to $200 value I can get quite nice glass although not the well known branded, but I will need to pay the difference if I opt for more expensive frame if it is more than $200. I already got like 5 pair of glasses 5 years since I joined with the private health insurance.

Well, I thought I was being ripped off with my glasses and now I'm sure of it. The frames alone cost $200 and my lenses were $200 each plus $55 for the eye test. So I paid $655 in total for my last set of glasses. Needless to say, I am taking very good care of them. Part of the cost in the lenses is because I have transition lenses so I don't have to swap glasses when I go out in the sun. Oh and the frames are one of the cheapest at my optometrist. From memory I think my previous pair only cost me about $300 all up, but I did get a special deal from that optometrist. I moved towns 3 years ago to a town about 5 hours away from my old home and I have found that getting any sort of medical care at a reasonable price is really difficult in this town.
