Artificial intelligence-is that a threat?

The concept of artificial intelligence is booming up,Even right now there are several departments(defense in particular)making use of machines with E.Q as a substitute forhumans. Is that a threat to humans or will man be ever replaced by human beings?

There is no way of being able to tell what will happen in the future with A.I. It all depends on who and how it gets developed. If it gets to the point where machines can recreate and make new machines without any human input whatsoever, that would be when it could be considered a threat in my opinion.

You make a nice point here. When Humans make anything they are inherently flawed, and probably wouldn't pose much of a threat, at least not for a few decades. If the AI gets to the point where they can create on their own, what they create will be much less flawed, as they are not apt to making miscalculations and such. I think that we are safe for our lifetimes!

Well there are some things especially in deffence that should have machines replacing humans.I wouldn't be too worried about that as people get replaced in some areas, they are free too work in others. I just hope never make anything smart enough to think for itself and decide it does not like us. lol that would be scary indeed

Depends on use, but in many cases it can be. On basic principal, A.I. can never be human and it'll never have the same interests as humankind. People can program them, order them, but there is no guarantee of safety and order with A.I. in society. A.I.s may deal with conflicting orders and principals. For one they may have to protect life and serve humans, but viewing humanity as destructive amongst one another... they may take extremes to uphold the principal (extremes being excessive or counter to basic human ethics and rights). In application. If the A.I. was used for common day tasks, it might not be harmful, but too much "I" given to them during these tasks can lead to questioning their role, society and why even take orders in the first place. More basic than this, the A.I. may still make errors, which can be destructive, or deadly depending on the A.I. (Faulty robo-nanny anyone? "Wash the dog" gets misread in programming as "Break the dog" for example...). How about faulty missile defense. Instead of "hit [current enemy city or country]", it could misread and try destroying several cities in the home country or across the world. In further application. If A.I. was placed in key aspects of society, life and government, the results could be disasterous. What would stop them from taking away rights, safety, priveledges, all for the sake of "peace" or "order"? Think of A.I. in further military applications. One A.I. or a few A.I.s could easily revolt and our military couldn't stop them (as they are under the A.I's control). Existence. A.I.s may grow to want to exist. Any threat to that may be dealt with in deadly fashion. An owner may want to destroy a faulty model for a new one, and the faulty model kills the owner claiming it doesn't want to die. A computer program hooked into government computers or military, it doesn't want to die or it gets scared of what humans can do. That could lead to a hideous end for humanity. The Singularity. A.I.s may build their own A.I.s (perhaps as children, or just to improve). These newer A.I.s are better and stronger than the last ones. Remember, that the A.I.s humanity created are steps above their own intelligence (possibly). But in any case the A.I.s produce more A.I.s that are better and then those "progeny" produce their own A.I. Soon human intellect is overtaken and vastly overshadowed. Humanity's worth will be questioned and without a safeguard, humanity will be deemed obsolete.

it depends on how it is developed if it is done to replace humans completely then it is but just for partial relief used then its fine

I agree with your opinion on Artificial Intelligence.Thanx
