A fellow named Paul from Seattle, Washington has an awesome online guide about hooking up a rainwater barrel to his downstairs toilet. He likes to share this information with everyone. “My work and website are public domain,” he says. Costing less than $100 to install, this system will pay for itself over time and definitely helps ease pressure on our precious water resources. Here is the link for that discussion. http://www.ecospace.cc:80/home/rain-barrel-to-toilet-installation-a-practical-guide.htm The amount of water that goes down the drain is such a waste and using it has to be a great assett to the world.

When I first read this, it sounded like a bit of a redneck idea to me, but on having checked the link, it looks like quite a neat idea. Yes, I'd be for installing one, were my bathroom not at the front of the house!!! Brightest Blessings.

I guess if it were installed beside the coal bunker, which is hidden behind the wall around the steps to my door, at the side of the building, then it could serve at least two purposes. It would be linked to my toilet, and into my garden for watering purposes. Hmmmmm, it's worth thinking about.

That has to be a good solution, as rain water for the garden has to be more beneficial to the plants, as tap water has ingrediants that could have other negatives in it.

Having the bathroom at a place further from where you need it has no cosequencen as the plumbing can directed to anywhere, as the pump will deliver it to wherever you need it! You can install it in you back garden and trunk the outlet to your toilet!

Some big businesses have installed systems to collect and use rainwater for flushing their toilets. I know of one new foodstore and one school which have these systems built in. I think it is an excellent idea, and if more people would have it in their homes it would help even more to conserve water resources. If you can do it yourself for less than $100 so much the better.

Now when you say big businesses, then has to be a great incentive for others to join in and use that precious rainwater. The beauty of rain water is that it is more purer that the seawater that it came from.

I had never heard of this before. It is a great idea and what a great way to help the world's use of water. I bet there will be a lot of people making use of his idea. I went to the link and it doesn't seem like it would take all that much to install it.

You know teapotmommommerced you have a valid point there. having even just a bucket to catch the rain water for your garden, or even the toilet when doing the flushing with the bucket. So we can all help in some small way.
