I could have put this discussion in the topic of 'making money', but I chose cooking instead. I've come up with another way to add extra income for us during our retirement. We have several fruit trees in our yard. We have three apricot trees, two peach trees and a pear tree. We planted an apple tree this year, Red Delicious. We also have a nice pecan tree. Every year, we have so much fruit, after I freeze, can and make pies and cobblers, I sell the excess fruit. Each year I make pretty good money. I've decided this year, I'm going to make jelly and preserves, put it in nice jars with labels and I'm going to sell it as jelly and preserves instead of selling the fresh fruit. In the meantime, I'm going to be testing jelly and preserve recipes, so I'm looking for your best tasting jelly and preserves recipes for peaches, apricots, pears and apples. If you have a good recipe please share it with me.

I don't have a recipe, but and idea for you. You can put your preserves and jellies, online. ETSY.com is for all homemade stuff. Here's mine http://EverythingHomemade.etsy.com You should also do a website too. Good Luck

Thanks for the idea icyorchid. I didn't think about that. I'll have to check it out and see how I can do it and what the legal issues are with selling foodstuff online. Thanks again.

I don't have a recipe or fruit trees, but I thought the same thing since I grow mint and to make my own mint jelly to sell..I think this is a great idea, I much prefer homemade to store bought jams any day..

Store bought just doesn't have enough flavor anymore. I don't know why. I bet your mint jelly is terrific carmel. Since I love to cook and am so good at it, I even thought about baking bread for sale and even cooking dinners and selling them, or making pies and cobblers and selling those. Anything to make a buck.....

I used to make my own jelly but not any of the kind that you have listed. We used crab and jelly apples for apple jelly. Here is a site for apple jelly. http://www.pickyourown.org/applejelly.htm I lived in Nebraska back then and made chock cherry jam rhubarb jam and current jam My family didn't care for jellies and the chock cherries and currents grew wild. I also made elderberry jam. As I said these all grew wild back there and all we had to do was go out and pick them.

I am a very bad cooker so I can't be much help to you but i found this website and it might be helpful to you. http://www.pickyourown.org/jam.htm I love jellies. My favourite of all is marmalade and raspberry. I love it. Anyway, you can search on the internet for recipes, if you look at my website, let me know the result if you cook it. Goodluck :)
