Peanut butter and jelly - how many ways?

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich - peanut butter and jelly sandwich

How do you make your peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Do you put peanut butter on both sides of the bread and the jelly in between? Do you carefully spread the jelly to the very edges? Can you enjoy a sloppy sandwich? And what about the jelly, does it have to be grape? Do you like good old plain white batter bread, or whole grain?

My favorite way to eat a peanut butter sandwich would be to use three pieces of bread. I prefer whole wheat, and spread peanut butter on one piece, and spread butter on the other piece and the last piece use jelly. I'm not too picky about jelly though I do enjoy preserves better!

Peanut butter and butter is the bomb! Not to picky about the bread. White or multigrain. Also, have you ever tried peanut butter, marshmallo cream, and banana slices? Guess that just dated me. It was one of Elvis' favorites. lol!

I have had Peanut butter with banana before but never with marshmellow cream though it does sound good! I was going to mention peanut butter and banana, but since the discussion was peanut butter and jelly I didn't.

Actually I was taught to put peanut butter on one slice and jelly on the other slice. I can eat a messy one but I prefer a nice neat one. I usually have them on white bread but have tried them on wheat as well. I also occasionally will buy that one kind of peanut butter and jelly that is mixed in the jar...mmm, good. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I prefer a neat sandwich too. I just mentioned above about the too much jelly situation I get into trouble with too. I used to get that mixed up stuff to and it was very good. When I switched to the natural peanut butters, I had to stop geting it.

I like my white bread the best. Smooth, not chunky, peanut butter and grape jelly. Sometimes I will put a lot of jelly, too much really, but most of the time I try not to overdo on the jelly. I usually put peanut butter on one slice of bread then the jelly on the peanut butter. I also found a different way, put peanut butter on two slices of bread, put them together then put jelly on the top slice and lay that on top and you have three slices of bread and the jelly don't run and drip everywhere. I love pb&j also on toast.

If I overdo the jelly, it squirts out and I have a mess! Peanut butter makes it a little slippery huh? And you've invented a peanut butter club sandwich haha. Oh peanut butter toast, too - one of my favorite breakfasts.

I just slop on peanut butter and no jelly. If I do have jelly it has to be strawberry. Oh, I use white bread.

My favorite is creamy peanut butter with raspberry preserves. Another way I like it is with honey and peanut butter. Whole grain bread is good for you but, ya know white bread is the best way to have a pbj.

I haven't had honey on a sandwich in almost a year... forgot about buying it. My son bought himself a loaf of white for PBJ the other day - just wanted it.

I prefer to spread the peanut butter on one slice of white bread and next the grape jelly. I spread the jelly relative light so when I take a bite, it doesn't get all over my clothes. Don't like a sloppy sandwich as I end up getting the jelly all over my fingers. Like to eat the sandwich with ripple potato chips and a glass of cold milk. It's a great, healthy lunch.

Oh I don't like a sloppy sandwich either. Years ago and I do mean years and years, we put potato chips on our peanut butter sandwiches. I take it you eat your separately

both my son and me love peanut butter so much that we would rather have it as it is. But for sandwiches, its PB on both sides, no adulteration to the taste. And its white bread too! Have not tried it with jelly though. I have mango jam in the fridge right now. do you think it would taste good?

yes, its definitely an American recipe as I have not heard anybody having it in India, though peanut butter is widely available here and has been a favourite of mine since my own childhood. If your son says he uses it, I would try it too…children are more knowledgeable than us in many matters.

I'm willing to bet PB&J sandwiches are an American thing? I can't imagine mango jam on the peanut butter, but my son says he uses it. I'd try a small sandwich first.

Exactly as I make it: I take two slices of white (or whole wheat, depending on my mood) and I spread peanut butter to the very edge of one slice. Then on the other slice (because I don't like getting peanut butter in the jelly jar I use a different knife) I carefully spread jam (strawberry) to about half an inch from the edge of the bread. This helps avoid messes! I smoosh together, and eat! :)

I forgot about the peanut butter in the jelly jar - I really hate that. Or vice versa. I can't handle it. I'll scoop and clean it all out.

I do it too. I hate getting peanut butter in the jelly jar or jelly in the peanut butter jar. it's icky icky and especially if it's in the peanut butter, 'cause then I have to get it out 'cause sometimes I want a different jelly or no jelly at all!

I carefully lay the white bread side by side. I spread the peanut butter from corner to corner of each slice of bread. There is not a space on the bread that doesn't have peanut butter on it. Than I take a spoon and dip it into either Strawberry or Grape Jam. Those are the only two kinds of spread I like. Drop a spoonful in the middle of each slice bread. I take a butter knife and spread it outward. After each slice is covered with Jam ontop of the peanut butter I take the two slices and put them together. A sloppy sandwich doesn't bother me at all. It just makes it taste better.

EEEWWW! I haven't been able to tolerate PB since I was 5! I can eat peanuts all day long, especially dry-roasted and unsalted, and I love them in my Asian food... but that sticky, gloppy stuff glues my mouf shut!LOL! What IS the attraction?

How about the peanut butter in the recipes for chicken, gosh I know there is some asian recipes with peanut butter - peanut butter noodles! And I know what you mean about the gluey mouth - we give our dogs a little bit just to watch them try to get it off the roof of the mouth!

I like mine on white bread. Peanut butter on one slice and strawberry jelly on the other. Then spread some butter on the outside of both pieces and grill it. The peanut butter and jelly get nice and hot and gooey. It is awesome. If you have never tried it you should. Oh, and get lots of napkins it can get a little messy.

My ex taught my son a weird peanut butter sandwich. And now all of my grandkids eat it. Peanut butter and mao. One grandson even puts cheese on it.

I do not make peanut butter and jelly for myself, so any preference I give here is for my youngest child who is absolutely nuts about peanutbutter and jelly... though gets just peanutbutter most of the time. she prefers white bread (I do not tolerate it myself) I spread the peanut butter to the edges - thinly - on one slice of bread. I like to use creamy as it spreads thinner for her (chunky is good to eat off the spoon :) ) the jelly is much easier to spread when it is placed on the other piece of bread rather than applying it over top of the peanutbutter.... and likely the peanut butter does not spread well if attempted to do so over top of the jelly hehe. the jelly when placed on the other piece of bread and then the two pieces joined makes for a neat sandwich - with pb and j reaching to the far corners and enjoyed in every bite. if I mess up and put the jam on the pb instead it ends up being a messy sandwich because the jam prefers to stay in a glob. daughter likes all types of jam/jelly/preserves/marmalade and apple butter. not fussy there. currently she is working on a jar of red plum jam and a jar of blackberry preserves.

During my home childcare years, I made so many PB&J sandwiches I didn't care if I ever saw another. When I was tired, the poor children suffered with shoddily made sandwiches. Never got a complaint though except when I cut them into quarters, it wasn't as special for them as i would have thought. I'm totally into making these neat like you do however.

I am not that crazy about peanut butter and jelly in one sandwich... i prefer them in separate sandwiches... plain peanut butter or plain jelly... most Filipinos are like this... but my favorite is the ever so delicious... cheese sandwich... just the plain one... not the grilled cheese sandwich...

I make a lot of PB&J for the family, but not many for me. I like the jelly on toast. A perfect cheese sandwich for me has mustard - what do you use on sandwiches?

Ahh the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Another one of my OCD moments. Last night we discussed bologna. First, my bread must match up perfectly for all sandwiches I make. The bread for a PB&J must be white for me. I spread butter over one slice, then I spread an even layer of peanut butter over the top of that. On the other slice I spread on some grape jelly (I prefer jam though it spreads nicer). Put the slices together and slice it diagonally to make two triangles. This is my perfect Peanut butter and jelly. My mom made them like this for us as kids. My husband thought the butter sounded gross until he tried it!

I must have a little of your OCD. I would make a peanut butter sandwich for myself just like that. For my husband and the kids, who really don't care, I don't achieve this perfection.

the science and art of PB&J. I put peanut butter on both slices of bread with the jelly in between. Yes, I do my best to distribute the jelly to all parts of the slice. I don't like a sloppy sandwich to the point the jelly drips out. My favorite type of bread is white. I'm not fussy about the jelly. It doesn't have to be grape. Mine is very rarely grape. Right now it's mango.

I don't like a sloppy sandwich either and the kids let me know if there are any spills at lunchtime at school. I got the squeezeable grape jelly and just put a big glob in the middle and call it quits when I'm really really tired making lunches Someone above just asked if mango would be appropriate on jelly, I'd have referred him to you. Oh and white bread is what I grew up on - it was called batter whipped sunbeam bread.

I spread my peanut butter on both slices first then add my sugar free jelly on top; of each slice and it has to be raspberry for me and the jelly goes out to the edges. I also always use whole grain usually multi grain bread never white, yuck.

Sounds like a healthy sandwich. I grew up on the white bread - the kind you could roll into little balls for fun. Nowadays I agree with you and have multi grain.

I have to say you're the first to put jelly on both sides of the bread. Most have put the peanut butter on one or both.
