There are a few reasons you can get your student loan forgiven/dismissed. #1 is no high school Diploma or GED. Takes 90 days for an answer. Step 1: In order to get a student loan, you must have had a high school diploma or a GED. If you did not have one before you went to a tech or any other college, then there is good news for you! You can have your student loan dismissed/forgiven and get ALL the money they have taken from you back. Step 2: Fill out this form http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/DCS/forms/form.discharge.false.certification.atb.pdfand send it to who has your student loan. I would attach a return receipt to it to make sure they did receive it. It will take about 90 days for them to get back with you. Step 3: If the school closed while you were going to school, you can fill out this form http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/DCS/forms/form.discharge.school.closure.pdf and send it to who has your student loan. I would attach a return receipt to it to make sure they did receive it. It will take about a month for them to get back with you. Step 4: Here is the link with other reasons they will dismiss your student loan for including disability. If you are disabled and can't work, you can get your loan dismissed. http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/DCS/forms.html Step 5: You may not be able to get your loan dismissed or forgiven, but you may be eligible for a deferred payment plan if you are working part-time or have financial hardships (pregnant, major health problem, etc.). I think it is called a hardship deferment. Step 6: Here are phone #'s for you to call: 1. If you do not know who owns your student loan, call the loan locator at 1-800-433-3243, they will be able to tell you who has your student loan. 2. Dept. Of Education # is 1-800-621-3115
