Why can't the Dept. of Education communicate with people?

I called them yesterday to see what is going on with my student loan dismissal. The first person I talked to said he didn't have me in the system. Gave me another # to call and it lead me right back to him! lol So I spoke to his supervisor who gave me 3 other phone #'s and explained to me that if the first # she gave me didn't have me in thier system, to call the loan locator #. Ok so I called and they had me in the system and told me my loan had been recalled in February. I got very upset about it, because I sent the form to them 3 weeks ago after waiting 6 weeks to hear something from the Dept. of Edu. I told him thank you, because he was nice and told me to just call the Dept. of Edu since they recalled my loan and see what was up. Now I sent the form in to the Dept. of Edu. for dismissal of my loan on Feb. 1st, they got it on Feb 5th and I have not heard 1 word from these people, so I resent it to another address I had in March and they received it on March 18th. So there's 2 forms and no answers yet! I called the Dept. of Edu. and the lady I talked to was a little rude, but she did tell me that they got my form on Feb. 5th and that they were processing it to see if it could be forgiven, but she had no info to give me and said I should know something around May 2nd. This info was like pulling teeth from this woman! I had to ask all these questions as she was not volunteering any of it! Now I ask you why are these people so rude? Just because they are with the government gives them NO right to be rude to us!! I have been waiting over 60 days and I still have 3 more weeks to wait! Don't you think it would have been better for them to send me something stating that they received the form and are processing it and I will here something within 90 days so I would know what the heck is up? I just don't get it, why can't they communicate with people? Thanks for letting me vent ~Icy~

I used to work for the UK Government icy and I made sure that no one in my department EVER spoke rudely to anyone! That doesn't have to be the case. But you get these people who have been in their jobs for X years and they are just BORED with life and the only happiness they get out of it is to see you rise to their unhappiness. That's the way I see it. I got a distinction letter from the Cabinet Office (the government office that runs the Prime Minister's office) saying I had the most efficient office in the whole of Whitehall. All it took was a little bit of patience, understanding, good will and politeness. It is not a lot to ask.. I know how you feel as I didn't always get that sort of treatment from my colleagues and I was working within the Government! So Lord Behold anyone from the public domain!!!! My heart goes out to you. Just keep being patient and hold fast to your stance - you'll get there in the end. Always, if poss, try to remain above them, always polite in other words!! You can always tell their manager that they were rude.... Remember to write everything down LOL :)

Hi Angel, Congrats on your letter, that was very outstanding of your department. Now I am always polite, but I tend to be rude back when I don't deserve the rudeness. lol I will have to change that. I spoke to a friend who is going through the same as me and she said the woman was rude to her also. Had to ask all kinds of questions to get any answers. lol She said she will be happy when it is all over. She has to wait longer than I do, she mailed hers out later than me. I write everything down no matter what I am dealing with. Thanks

Yep, that's the right thing to do - write everything down when you are in a conversation with people like this. Make sure you take their name, the time and date and what they are saying... then you have something to back you up. Good luck, honey.
