Revision Stress

April 10, 2008 12:55pm CST
I am in my first year of university and have got end of year exams coming up. I have been revising loads, but it just seems nothing stays in my hed. I have tried different methods of revision such as flash cards, posters, rewritting notes etc and have regular breaks but i cant get anything to work well. does anyone have an good revision techniques they want to share?

Laura, This have worked for me and for many to whom I have suggessted. Read aloud every lesson better every question twice or thrice then try to write it down what ever you have read. Dont worry if you make a mistake. Redo it again. As the time is quite less, you need to be very careful in choosing the important questions. Write down important points in abbrevated forms and keep looking at them. Yes, take regular breaks, but dont take very longer breaks. Those breaks should be just to relax your legs and back. You could have a refreshing drink.

Being a student cousellor, I really tell the students especially those who are in their higher secondary, to get more organized right from the beginning of the academic year. This is one of the time tested methods, and many have really been successful. Hope this works for you too.

Take a look at all the quizzes and exams that have been given this semester, because professors often recycle material. Try condensing the notes you have taken into just a few pages, that way you'll narrow them down to only the most important information, but you'll also relearn a lot of information. Lastly, go to sleep right away after studying, because your brain processes the last thing you were doing before sleeping as you sleep. Trust me it works.

Yes, going to sleep immediatly after reading something heavy especially some tough subjects, really works and in the morning you are sure to remember them clearly. But whatever you are learning before going to bed, you should learn it with full heart.

A book to study - I found this on the web somwhere and wanted to share it with all of you.
The easiest way I have found for remembering a variety of things is association if you can associate it to something that is easy for you to remember then it is easier not to mention alot of fun I know that studying is very hard and can take its toll on you quick so remember to take plenty of breaks and keep a positive attitude and I wish you good luck and have a great day.
