Which beans are best for sugar control?

I have read in several places that if you eat a half a can of beans everyday, it will help stabilize your sugar. The problem is that they never say what type of bean to eat. Are they talking about green beans? Black beans? Lima beans? I am new to this and I am very confused.

Although white kidney bean extract is said to block carbs, one of the tricks to blocking sugar is to have it together with high fiber foods, so really, I think almost any kind of beans will do the trick, as will whole grains. That is why a nice carrot cake made with oat and graham flour is much healthier than a white cake even if they both have the same amount of sugar.

Thanks, I have just recently been diagnosed and I am finding all of this overwhelming. Though I have always been a bit overweight, I coach a few sports and do some weight training and have always thought I knew a lot about nutrition; potassium to avoid cramping, carbs pre-game for energy, water management before and during the game, balancing proteins, barbs and fat for different body goals etc. But this diabetes management I am finding really hard to grasp. What other types of food will act as a carb blocker? And how do you know how much carbs to allow? You need some but how much is too much? Are there any resources that you can recommend that would help me to understand it? I don't want a step by step, do this do that guide. I really want to understand what to do and why to do it. We have already changed everything in the house to whole grain, our breads, pasta, snacks, everything we can find that is available in whole grain. But am I understanding that all beans will have a similar effect in blocking carbs? Also, do you know anything about the effect of cinnamon? I have heard that works well at controlling sugars. Thanks Doc!
