Trying to find goodnight story from my childhood

I am trying to find a book I had when I was a child that never failed to get me to sleep, but I cant remember the name. I went something like - once upon a time there was a little _____ and his mommy was reading him a bedtime story the went like this... and it repeats over and over with different animals in the blank, then it goes backwards and all the little animals are asleep. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
