Did you know Howl's Moving castle was based on a novel? It was written by a brittish author, Diane Wynne Jones in the 80's.
I was a little disapointed when i learned this. I thought the film was excellent, if judged as just a film. But when compared to other ghibli studio movies, I didn't think it was much of an advancement. It almost seemed like a retelling of Spirited Away, to me.

Yup, I have it on my bookshelf :)
The book and movie are utterly different. The villain is different, Howl is different, the sisters (yes, Sophie has sisters, not a sister) are different, the plot is different (the crow thing? Er... k), the book is partially set in this world... I could go on all day.
Both are amazing, just utterly, utterly different. I recommend reading the book... Howl is marvelous no matter what format he is in!
Wiki mentions nothing of Spirited Away being based on a book. I seem to recall something about it... but it could have been another of the Ghibli films I am thinking of... in reference to the post above.

I have heard that both movies were based on novels. By your review, my question is should I see Howl's or not? It was on the other day, but something else interesting came on and I forgot about it. I have seen Spirited Away, and I thought that movie was great.
