Pagers and Cell Phones Job Requirement

Do you have to carry a pager or cell phone for your job? Do you have to be available for work to contact you 24x7? If so post your opinion and what it is like having to deal with this. I have been on-call for years. It is getting old and I have thought many times about calling it quits and moving into another line of work so that I could just have a regular 9 to 5.

I don't HAVE to have a phone for my job, but they prefer if we do(and admittedly, it does make things a bit easier). But... once they know a person has a cell phone, they'll call whenever they please(I've gotten more midnight phone calls... yeesh). They also like it if they are able to reach us whenever possible, even on days off, which can get a little annoying("we're getting killed, I know it's your day off, but..." ugh).
Ah well. LOL
