Is it safe for over 30 people to share 1 bar of soap?

April 12, 2008 8:23am CST
I work in an assisted living home where 30+ people share 1 bar of soap. I am trying to stop this because I feel it is unhealthy and just nasty. Does anyone know where i can find some info or proof that it is not safe? Thanks

That is an all around disgusting thing. I would say call the health department or maybe if you know a good scientist have the bar of soap examined for germs and viruses. even antibacterial soap i cant even imagine sharing my soap with my boyfriend let alone 29 other strangers. it's scary this world we live in but i bet you could get some information off of a site like webmd.com where they give medical advice and stuff. thank you and have a lovely day :)

I checked webmd.com and can't find that soap sharing isn't safe. But there are so many situitions that I can think of. Also there are many diseases of the skin that are transferable.

Well you could take the bar of soap somewhere and have it tested for bacteria and germs. You could also try writing an email to the people at the television show How Clean Is Your House?, they seem to know alot about germs and hygien.

Great idea, I love that show. I wish I knew somewhere that would test soap.

I think it would be better if there truly were ten bars of soap...3 persons per soap. This way they don't have to buy one bar of soap every other day... I don't know if it's sanitary or not though.

The worst part about all of this is they get all new soap donated, several hundred bars a year. Thanks
