Becoming better people

It's come to my attention lately that the world has to get a lot worse, or improve a bit more before the messiah will reveal himself. It seems to me that we should all try to become better people. Any thoughts?

It's a very interesting question, but I'm sure you must know that this point of view is only shared by certain groups of people (Orthodox Jews and some sectors of Christianity I believe). I think the belief is that the world would have to improve a great deal before the messiah comes. There are many other cultures and religions in the world whose beliefs don't include the idea of a messiah, but who still believe in doing good and helping others. My own view as a non-religious person, is that we should all help other people and try to make the world a better place for its own sake, and not require the promise of a messiah to do this.

Interesting. I do not have a religion per se. I call myself a Noahide. 7 laws were given to Noah when the ark landed. I follow those principles.

I find that interesting too. I've heard of the 7 Noahide laws, which according to Jewish law are the rules that non-jews should follow to ensure their place in heaven. (I'm not sure what they are though - might look it up some time). I've never heard of somebody following these without being part of a religion (although maybe I'm just ignorant, and it's a common thing!?). I admire you for it, everyone should find their own way of doing things.

Most people today feel they need to be a part of a 'churc' or 'religion' to draw themselves closer to God. During the time of Noah there was no such regular church or religious meetings. One does not need to be a part of something to find God and to serve Him. It's difficult to do in this day and age as so many church people will condemn me for not joining a church. I found out about the Noahides while researching church history. Very cool!
