Today the soon to be ex and I had to go to the city for a number of reasons. He drove. He always drives. Apparently I'm not to be trusted in his company behind the wheel of a car.*sigh*(Something about a Moose?lol)
Anyway. We arrived in the city and went to carry out our first errand. A job interview for the soon to be ex. He's been unhappy with his current job for some time and trying his best to sabatoge his employment, but he's too good at what he does and so they won't let him go. It was a lovely day here and so I wandered around outside the building for some time taking pictures and making notes for an article I have in mind. After about an hour I went inside to see if the interview was over and found the soon to be ex and the owner talking in the lobby. As I walked up to them I heard the owner say "Well, I'll think about it and get back to you in a week or so". As I stood beside my husband, the owner saw my camera and asked me what I'd been photographing. I explained a little, while the soon to be ex shifted from foot to foot clearly getting impatient. Finally, realizing that my husband wasn't going to introduce me, the owner stuck out his hand and told me his name. I shook it and told him mine. The soon to be ex then effected to look bored.
Wrong move. I decided to prolong his agony a bit, as that look he gets always brings out the devil in me, and proceeded to ask the owner about his business. Well it turns out I know quite a bit about his particular area of enterprise and we had ourselves a wonderful conversation, exchanging ideas and laughing a lot. Ten minutes of this had the soon to be ex nearly frothing at the mouth. The owner looked from me to my husband and said "You know sir, I'm not convinced that you are really interested in this job. Would you be terribly offended if I offered it to your wife?" Holy sh*t! I swear my mouth dropped open to my knees! The soon to be ex, never one to enjoy surprises, simply stared back for a moment, turned on his heel and walked out. I quickly told the owner that I was flattered, but as I lived so far out of the city, I had to regretfully turn down his offer. He told me to keep him in mind anyway *wink, wink* as the time may come when I changed either my mind or circumstances. Clever man! lol
When I got out to the car, the soon to be ex put it in gear, tore out of the parking lot and hit the highway for home. After about a half hour of total silence, he suddenly said "If you think for one minute you are going to get this car, let alone the truck in your clever little divorce, you've got another thing coming!"
So the cat's really out of the bag where the divorce is concerned, and I'm up the highway without wheels.*sigh*
What is it with men and their vehicles? LOL
I guess I should have just kept my mouth shut and played the dumb wife huh?

Why Sparks, Shame on you for wounding such a delicate ego. I agree with pike, his entire manhood was at stake in the moment you were offered the job. His only retaliation was the threat of taking away the car, and truck...... Men are so predictable. When everything is all said and down and the dust has settled I know you are going to be a much happier person.

Well, I say that he is just mad that you were talking to the guy and he offered you the job. I am sure that the boss could tell that he was not as interested in the job as you were by the way he was acting. Maybe he is just throwing a tantrum and saying that you won't get the car. I am sure that you won't be allowed to be without any transportation and him get a car and a truck.
I would never play the dumb wife as I know I am smart and I should be accepted for who I am and I shold be respected for the time I took to study and learn all that I know. If my husband would treat me like that, I would probably leave him too.

Oh it was no tantrum. It was typical behaviour and one of the reasons he's the soon to be ex.

Although i don't always approve of her saying this. But she does it just the same and I know my place. My wife believes that the vehicle you drive is in direct inverse proportion to the size of a male's manhood. The bigger the truck the smaller the member and reverse. Now where's my pedal car..... At least you got a job offer.

It is rather fun to see the looks on peoples faces when I tell them that yes it is my truck, and no he doesn't drive it. Although now that winter is over I am pining for my once was car again. And the fact that your almost-ex is a trucker seems to fit with the stereotype.

Wow guess you really do need that divorce. my he is quick to get angry. The idea of him not letting you have a car.why does he need both vehicles? sounds like he is really being vindictive towards you. Does he want the divorce or not? In other words he was mad at you because the man wanted to give the job to you? that doesnt sound fair to me.you had no way of knowing the guy was going to day that to your soon tobe ex husband.I hope your soon to be ex changes his mind and lets you have the car.best of wishes.

He wants the car because he bought it for himself, not me, so therefore it's his.
As for the divorce - no he doesn't want it really. That means he loses control over me, and that's what makes him angry. Not be able to control me.

Honestly, I wasn't looking for opportunities. It was just so nice to be out of the house and among people who SMILEd at me, that I got carried away and let my personality show. Something I"m not allowed to do at home. *sigh*

There are two vehicles so you are bound to get one. I think it's funny myself. It's what he gets for looking so annoyed when the owner was talking to you. Had he been more patient that might not have happened. I wouldn't worry too much, most judges will give one vehicle to one and the other vehicle to the other.

You would think, but both titles are in his name, as well as the insurance. So it could be a battle.*sigh*

Oh it happened. Silly soon to be ex knows me right? He should have figured that keeping me isolated from real people for so long would result in my running off at the mouth when I got the chance! LOL I just wish he could appreciate my wit and brains as much as others do! ROFL

Interesting story. Just rise above sparks, rise above. Although to be honest, I can see why the soon to be ex was upset, still though it's a highly comical situation.
To answer your last question, cars I think represent freedom to most people. With a vehicle you get in it and just go, where ever and when ever you want.
It sounds to me however, that he's was just trying to find something to hold against you, something to lash out with and the car(s) seemed to be the easiest choice. Kind of like he is drawing a line in the sand and taking a stand.

Hey buff dude! Nice to see you. I've missed you.
As for lines in the sand. Oh my! If draws one more that I'm 'not allowed' to cross I just may bury him in a sand dune! LOL
And the car is mine, I say, mine! LOL

Yep, you did it again! ROTF LMAO. And what a hoot it is! Looks good on him. Serves him right for being so impatient and locking you up for so long. You did nothing wrong but turn on the charm. He knows how you crave human interaction. You are a very social person. Lively, entertaining, pretty, charming. You just charmed the fellow and he would have offered you anything he had. I've seen you do it before and it does make some insecure people jealous sometimes, but too bad for them.
You'll get the car. He'll get the truck. His comment was his only way to get revenge for his percieved injustice.
What was the job by the way? That he applied for and it got offered to you instead? I'm still laughing too hard to type properly. lol
No, don't keep that pretty mouth shut. Clearly the fellow who offered you the job didn't think so either.
PRICELESS!
