I have to confess, that I don't do enough to help the environment. I should recycle more but I do try to eat all organic food which is so healthy for you. But I really believe that we should all do our part in trying to save the earth. Anyway, what do you do to help with keeping the world cleaner and healthier??

I reuse everything that I can. All batteries that I use are rechargeable and I use a digital camera instead of film. I don't waste energy, I turn everything off that I'm not using and unplug them when not going to be used for a while, even overnight. I travel only when necessary and combine trips into town to do errands. I don't use chemicals in my cleaning or personal care products, including my laundry. I will not pour more junk into the earth or on my body that will hurt me. I do laundry only when I have full loads. With just Tom and I that's only maybe two loads a week. I am planting a few vegetables in a very small area by the house and will put a few more in containers. All will be grown organically and I'll save rainwater so I should only have to use the hose occasionally. I'm sure there's more, but that's what I can think of at the moment.

wow, you do do a lot. And I am glad to say that I do all those things that you are doing, so that makes me feel good. I do try to combine everything I have to do in town into one trip so as to save gas and pollution. Thanks for responding.

I recycle very heavily. I also reuse containers if needed and have an ongoing compost pile out back. It a pile that has no bottom as I just keep adding but yet, take all the black gold out for my garden and flowers.

The key is to have an enclosed compost bin that the wild animals can't get into. I am surrounded by woods and have racoons, possums, deer, rabbits, foxes, and lord know who else that visits during all hours of the day/night. They haven't been able to get into my compost bin which is just a garbage can with a lid and lots of holes punched into the sides. We recycle so much that I found it a waste of money having garbage service so cancelled it years ago.

Good for you for all that you do. The compost pile sounds terrific, but I am afraid all my wild animals would love to get into something like that if it was left over food. But good for you.

daughter picking up any trash - We grab a beach bucket and picj up any trash out in the yard
I have to say that I am also guilty of not doing as much as I should be with recycling. I moved from a large town to a very small rural town and here we do not have a truck that comes by each week for recycled goods as we did down in Naples. As far as I know even he nearest recycling place would be in he next town over which is a good 30 miles away. As for saving electric and water I do all I can there .I use the energy saving light bulbs that last for years. One big thing I do is the kids walking home from school have a tendency to throw their candy and gum wrappers on the ground. I do get after them when I see that and my youngest daughter grab a bucket and we make a round each week out in my front yard to pick up any trash that has been dropped by others or blown into my yard from the wind. I really hate to see litter anywhere. I have a mulch pile that I use for growing my strawberries and tomatoes, I also make my own jellies and jams, which I reuse the canning jars.I am sure there are many other ways too help but those are some that I do personally.

I am very concerned about the environment Margie, and so I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to re-cycling! I re-cycle everything and it drives my family crazy! I hate waste so any left-overs from meals are put into the compost heap along with anything else that is allowed in there. I grow my own vegetables (using the compost on them), and they are delicious. My tomatoes are like nothing you have ever tasted from the grocery store! I even save water from the washing up and put it on my plants instead of using fresh water from the tap. After the drought we've just been through here in Australia, we have all learned how to conserve water, it's so precious. We also conserve energy by using the new light globes in our house, and I try to get my family to turn off lights when not in use. I believe in the Power of One - if we all did a little bit, we can make a difference!
