GRANBY, Conn. - Two Massachusetts men are accused of stealing a swimming pool from a Granby backyard. Timothy Morin, 37, and David Hawley, 18, both of Westfield, were charged Friday with trespassing, larceny, conspiracy, and possession of burglary tools. Granby police say they found parts from the disassembled aboveground pool in the rear seat of the men's car, about a mile away from the yard where the pool had stood. Police say the men told them they took the pool for scrap metal and felt they were doing the owners a favor by getting rid of it for them. Police also recovered from the car: seven automotive batteries, a coil of copper pipe, wire with a copper core, an aluminum pneumatic manifold with brass fittings, bolt cutters, metal shears and a hammer. http://www.gmanews.tv/story/89152/Men-accused-of-stealing-swimming-pool i guess they were framed up

Doing someone a favor without asking first? Guess they learned their lesson. People come up with some pretty lame excuses when they are caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

That's a pretty crazy story. I live in Connecticut and there have been many reports of individuals stealing catalytic converters from poeple's car. They are actually crawling under the cars and using some type of metal cutters, cutting them out just for the metal. You see people driving around in trucks picking up scrap metal everywhere. They are getting tons of money per pound of metal these days and it's an easy way to make some extra cash. I guess the metal places that buy the metal don't ask questions as to where people are getting the metal and if they are getting it legally. Is this a problem anywhere else?
