Hi Honey and welcome to myLot. For me and my family, its a necessity. I keep my cellphone wherever I am to mainly communicate with friends, business, official purposes and most especially my son who is a teen ager now. Being a single parent and coming home in the evening, I worry where my son is if he is not home early and the cellphone is our way of communicating to his whereabouts, that gives me security. It communicates instantly and reliably anywhere where a landline is nowhere. Its a mother's connection to her children.

Cell phone per se I think is a neccessity. It's a wonderful tool to get in touch with friends and loved ones, and if there's an emergency, we don't need to find a pay phone to call home or anyone. But then, as human beings, we are never satisfied. We want to have the best there is, and if we talk about this aspect, it is where the luxury comes in. Cell phones are made to connect with people. That alone is reason enough to make a neccessity.

a cell phone today an absolute necessary. i would not be able to function without one. funny enough though i have a land line it just so hard for me not to pick up the mobile. my work and entire day to day life depends on my mobile. the best part of it is messaging. it is easy to just about any one in secs, gone are the days where you have to wait to here from someone for days.

Mobile is also a need for me. I don't like to change every model every month. If i have a very good mobile with a lot of features. Then will you believe i don't use any feature. I only use mobile for contact others and for sending some SMS to others.

Even i use it for because it is necessary and not for luxury. As i am a college student i live ina hostel 200 miles away from my family. Cell phone is the best available means of communication between me and my family. But as u mentioned i have seen people use cell phone for luxury purposes. My hostel friends buy new models just to have a luxury mobile rather than having it for the necessary purpose.

My Pastor included a great deal about cell phones yesterday in his sermon. He mentioned how generally impersonal we have become and rude by taking calls while in a counseling session with him or our in public while with other folks we are close to. I have to agree. If you are driving down the road and have a spouse or other family/friends in the car---that is not the time to share the time with a cell call--made or received. There are very few emergencies, but rather the cell phone has become a leash for everyone to find us. I personally tell people- my cell phone is for MY use and not for others to hound me with the littliest thing that pops into their head to tell or ask me. Title shoud say- WANT, Luxury or Neccessity. I really don't WANT my phone any more.

We have a landline, that also provides the broadband connection. Me and my husband have a cell phone each. Though I am currently a home maker, I need my own mobile as I am also a part time trainer. Even our close relatives they call my mobile if they want to talk to me or to my hubby's if they want to talk to him first. Though they then talk to him or me. Having a cellphone was once a luxury. But now time have changed, you need to be connected with everyone everytime. So it have become a necessity than luxury. Even for the elders who live on their own alone, this cell phone is realy a boon.
