I have been following this issue. I don't have any children in school any more, but I do side with the parents and the students of Ridge/Ruxton Elementary.
Ridge/Ruxton Elementary houses and teaches 127 developmentally and disabled children. Towson is facing an over crowding problem in the area. Rogers Forge, Stoneleigh, Hampden, and Riderwood Elementary schools have been facing a serious over crowding problem for at least the past 5 years due to what Baltimore County has been pushing as of late. The Renaissance of Towson.
Now here is what I don't understand. If the Council was so focused on wanting the "feet on the street", that they have used as their motto many times, then why didn't they look at the bigger picture and look at possible scenario's, both good and bad to project the numbers of what would happen to the population influx of the area? The Towson Council wants to see Towson grow. That's fine, but what happened to the projection of what all those "feet on the street" were going to do to the area? Now, what I am reading is that there is no money in the budget to build a new school to ease the over crowding in the schools. Again, I ask, what happened to looking ahead? The children at Ridge/Ruxton are all of a very fragile nature. Having other children invade their space, that will not understand how to deal with the disabled children, will cause un-necessary havoc not just in the children and parents lives of both sides, but in the Baltimore County Council as well. Again, they are not looking to the future.
I would love some insight to this from others. If this has happened in your town, not just Towson, Md., your input would be welcomed.
