I had abdominal surgery 9 days ago. I normally sleep on my stomach or at least my side. My incision runs from the side of one hip all the way around the front to the the side of the other hip. I'm having one heck of a time getting a decent night's sleep. I managed the first few nights because I was knocked out basically on pain meds. Now I'm off the meds and I cannot sleep more than an hour or so before I wake up with my back aching and my neck hurting. It takes hours to get comfortable enough to doze off to start with. Any suggestions? I'm desperate here.

Contour Pillows Help Back Alignment - Contour Pillows are:
Ergonomically designed with your ideal sleeping position in mind
The contour shape is molded to cradle your head and neck whether you sleep on your back or side.
Memory foam responds the individual's body heat and weight to minimize pressure points and provide additional support
I had the same problem when I had flesh eating bacteria several years ago. I had a colostomy so sleeping on my back was basically my only option. I found sleeping with a contour pillow helps very much when having to sleep on your back. They can be found in most department stores and online. Hope this helps, here is a link to one at amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Serta-2-5-Pound-Memory-Contour-Pillow/dp/B000BI3OSQ Also a topper for your mattress may help. I bought my mom a memory foam topper for her bed and it helped her back and hips from the first night. Brightest Blessings, Mari

Thanks. I have a memory foam topper for my mattress, but I'm going to go buy one of those pillows first thing tomorrow and give it a try. If I weren't already undressed, I'd go right now!

I just realized that I have one of those pillows in my guest room. I dragged it out and am getting ready to take it to bed with me along with the pillows to go under my knees and the other vast asortment that I take along trying to get myself propped just right. i'm taking a Lunesta and a coupld of tyelnol and PRAYING for a decent night's sleep. I really do need to work tomorrow if I can find some clothes that this swollen body will fit into.

So you have a lounge chair or recliner that you get comfortable in? I know I've had several relatives that slept that way after surgery. I hope this helps and you have a speedy recovery.

Dumbly, I got rid of my recliner a couple of weeks before surgery. It was really battered and ugly looking. What was I thinking?
