Where can I buy liquorice ice cream?

When I was little I remember going to an ice cream parlor in Broadstairs (England) and eating liquorice ice cream. As I'm obsessed with liquorice (hence my user name!) I remember this very fondly and would love to have it again. The shop has since closed down and I haven't seen it anywhere in shops. Does anyone know of a brand or supplier who does this unusual flavour?

There are a few smaller icecream shops here in Australia that make it, I love it, I used to eat it all the time when i was a kid too. I saw a cook on TV making his his own, he just melted licorice and mixed it in vanilla icecream...have a go, make your own...

Hello fellow liquorice connaisseur, thanks for your answer. Maybe I could go to Australia to visit those shops. I love both Australia and liquorice ice cream so that sounds like a plan! (If only it weren't a question of money, :o) I think the problem here is that liquorice just isn't that popular so they just don't think to make things with that flavour, very annoying! I like your suggestion for how to make some myself. It sounds lovely, and doable. Did the cook use a particular type of liquorice or will any kind do?

yeh well I think licorice icecream would be worth the trip I think, although what they make now is not as black as it used to be when i was a kid...the cook just said licorice in a pot over the stove but I think it would be worth getting a good licorice...here is what I found on the net, there are a few recipes on there... http://recipes.epicurean.com/recipe/13600/licorice-ice-cream.html
