Trimming Peace Lilies???

My husband gave me a Peace Lily for my birthday back in January. The first two flowers that were on it when he gave it to me are finally dying off and turning brown and green. But I am not sure how they should be trimmed back properly. Does anyone know what the proper way to trim lilies is? I am tired of seeing them because they are no longer pretty and white. Also what is the best thing to use to fertilize them? It does have new flowers, but it doesn't seem to be getting any bigger. There is no new green foliage on it. I re-potted it a few weeks ago because it was root bound, but it still doesn't seem to be growing any bigger.
