Does anyone else think that they seriously messed up the Venom story line?

From what I could tell in the movie the symbiote and Eddie were both destroyed by the blast from Harry's pumpkin Bomb. I personally think that really messes up the Venom story line from the comics and the cartoon. Because if Venom is actually destroyed then it cannot reproduce and create Carnage. And the Black webbing? what was that all about.
