ghost knife fish

i have a ghost knife fish and the tank seems to have an odor even after cleaning and water changes. The smell is bad and we are thinking of getting rid of the fish because of this. We have other tanks and this is the only one we have a problem with.Does anyone have any suggestions for us.

if you get rid of that knife fish.dont put it on the sea or lake.

Is the tank water kind of greenish? I had tried to use live plant bulbs I got at wal mart and it turned my tank greenish and smelly. I went to petco and the lady told me to use jungle tabs one for fungal and one for clear water. I used them two days and my tank looked good as new. ( No more live plants for me) You might try it or go by your local pet store with a water sample from your tank, they will usually test you water and give you ideas of what you can do.
