In my country, Philippines, rice is a staple food. We can't live a day without eating rice. But too much rice is not good, specially for diabetics. Cause when carbohydrates melts down when digested it becomes sugar. Maybe a cup of rice will do for each meal.

Unpolished rice is healthy enough to eat exclusively. Meaning eating nothing else but rice. White rice, or polished rice with out the germ is not healthy at all. It has little more than carbohydrate.

For many, rice is staple food and since it has a lot of carbs, I wouldn't say it is altogether unhealthy. But it can be consumed in apt quantities. My household has rice everyday atleast once. It depends on how we use it. And if you know how to make it healthy and tasty as well, then why not? Everything in moderation is good for the body. Not everyone knows how to make rice tasty. Its only the ones who are addicted to its taste who have to make an effort to limit the quantity. Others limit themselves naturally.

Main nutrients from rice can be found on different food. it is the carbohydrates. It can be found in bread, pasta and potatoes. Rice has insoluble fiber that helps us reduce the risk of bowel disorders and avoid constipation. It is rich in nutrients which is carbohydrates, source of energy. Rice is also low fat, contain some proteins and plenty of B vitamins. Notice your eating with potato and rice or bread. Compare to other source of carbohydrates, rice makes our stomach feel full. The only advantage that i could see is eating white rice alone in not delicious. you need something with it. Unlike bread or baked mash potato.

In some countries rice is a staple, an absolute essential. Here in England where it is easy to obtain a variety of foods, I think it should be included in moderation. It is a great source of carbs, but then so are potatoes, and pasta. I would not eat rice every day, but including it in your diet once or twice a week I think is healthy. It also depends upon quantity. It does not take a lot of rice to fill me up, so I would probably only give myself a small portion, and my husband would get more as he needs to eat more to fill him up. All things in proportion and balance. :)
