When my husband used to get that way, I would simply tell him that one of us needed to leave for a few minutes until we could calm the situation down. We have three children and it just shouldn't be dealt with with an unloving manner, especially when children are listening. That would usually work and then we were able to calmly sit down and talk to one another without it being blown out into something big. God bless
