If you are watching a foreign movie using a foreign language you don't understand would you rather watch it in mute or with sound?

Do you mean with subtitles, though? As I can;t imagine anyone watching a film without understanding anything that is going on... well, having seen some Northern European films they might... Anyway. Why would someone watch a film on mute? Whether you understand the spoken word or not, the sound is part of the production... it is part of the film. Miss the sound (the atmospheric noises, the music etc) and you miss a third of the movie.

well we did an experiment. This is where i got the idea for this question. We basically let our subjects watch a foreign film in mute with no subtitles. But they still understood it. But yeah you've got a point sound is part of the movie.

With sound, absolutely. Because the emotion expressed by the voice of the characters. And I always turn on the title in English on the screen at the same time.
