I worked for Les Schwab Tire Center for two years and I know that tires are better than they used to be. Flat tires are still a common occurence but when you see hundreds a cars a day then you do see it a lot. My last flat was a couple months ago, but before that I never had one.

The last time I had a flat tyre I apparantly did the wrong thing as there was a nail in the tyre and I pulled it out only to watch the tyre slowly go down. I was told I should have left it in until I could have made it to a tyre place to change and repair it! In the past in my "poor" days I had retread tyres and some lasted and some didn't. Now I have the best ones (not sure of the name) and they cost an arm and legbut last a lot longer and would have to be safer. Yes tyres are made better today in my opinion. @Perspectives (7131)

I cannot recall the last time we had a flat tire...probably six or seven years at least...and thankfully it wasn't far from home. I assume it is because they are making better tires these days...seems logical to me.
In regard to the type of tires we have. During the winter we have studded tires on and then we have to change them no latter than April 30th or drivers are fined because highways doesn't like the way they affect the roads.

People in the southern hemisphere don't know how lucky they are. Life under those Artic conditions must be twice as hard.
In Australia we scream blue murder when we have 12 degrees celcius.

When I was at a Hess gas station, someone at the other pump told me I had a flat tire. This was a month and a half ago or so. I pumped up my tires at the Hess station for free. I eventually went to Good Year Tires inside a KMart store. I had two tires that were flat replaced with new tires with a warrenty of 75,000 miles. All that came to $272.00 or so dollars. Including a $5 fee for turning the two tires in for recycling; according to New York State Law. For a total of $10. The staff at the Good Year were awesome. They put the new tires on the front wheels while they transferred the used tires on the rear.
