Have you ever asked some one when they are due and they are NOT pregnant? Has it ever been asked to you?? I did it once. At my very first job, I worked at a dollar store and a lady came in and bought all kinds of baby stuff. I asked her what she was having (nothing was gender specific)! I felt like such an idiot when she said it was for a friend. She didn’t look pregnant but how was I to know maybe she just had a baby or just found out!

This has happened to me a few. Usually I work out regularly to keep in shape but after a bit I started to get lazy and pig out so of course I started to lose my shape. I gained weight all over like my face getting bigger and whatnot but the main area hit was my belly. It just started to blow out and it looked like I was pregnant. When my mother and I were buying stuff for a friends baby shower this woman saw me and said, "Aww, you're having a baby? How far are you? You have a nice tummy going there." I just froze and looked at my belly thinking oh my goodness I really do look pregnant. I told her I wasn't and she felt bad and I told her it was ok. After getting that a few times I hit my work-out routine again. Now I'm back to my athletic body again.

Bleh I hate that! I think waist/abs area is the first place women gain weight and the last place the weight drops off and it's really the area nobody wants to have to deal with extra weight - except when you're pregnant!

I have had this happen to me and I've never been pregnant. It's very embarrassing. It's one reason why I never assume someone is. I think it's also one reason I get upset when I see discussions where someone is complaining because they saw this "pregnant woman doing___" fill in the blank to whatever they think a pregnant woman shouldn't do. My first thought is how do you know for sure they were pregnant? I've seen men who look like they could be pregnant but of course they aren't. One should never assume on this because unless the person has said so they can't know for sure. Now I can understand why you asked since they were buying all that baby stuff. It's like if they have a tshirt on that says "baby in the making" or similar. In those situations I can understand it and I'm sure the woman you were talking with did as well.

I felt horriable to say the least, I still feel bad. But really didn't have any idea. The woman wasn't fat or any thing but was buying all kinds of stuff. My thought was first time mom very excited and just found out!

I would have thought the same thing in that situation. With her buying baby items it's a natural thought. I'm sorry if you saw a woman buying cold medicine you'd think they had a cold not that they were buying it for someone else.

i was asked by a four year. i asked the child's mother to be godmother to my child. the mother told her daughter about it. the daughter didn't believe it. she thought she was playing an April fools joke on her. A few days later she asked me if i was having a baby. it was funny coming from a kid that age. i was not expecting that.

I remember when my mom was pregnant with my younger brother I was learning what pregnancy was (well as much as a 9 year old should know) I was with my baby sitter at the pool and I asked a lady if she was pregnant. She said no honey just have a big belly. Looking back on it makes me laugh because she was honestly like 70 or 80 years old!

Several of my friends are pregnant right now, and one of them now has a 10 week old baby. Right before she was born, my daughter who is four asked me why she was still in there. Now she asks me why the other babies are still 'in there' and not out here to play with like Mary is. LOL! I told her that Mary was done growing and too big to stay in her mommy but the others still need time to grow.

I never ask anyone unless I know for a fact that they are pregnant that way I don't have to be embarrassed if there not. My mother asked me if I was pregnant awhile back I had just put on weight in my belly I didn't think it was very nice so I don't ask others.

Ugh, your MOTHER? I have heard several people and friends mention that family members like moms or sisters have asked or assumed they were pregnant just because they put on a few pounds. That's insulting, even if they don't see each other often! Wouldn't they think their daughter or sister might mention it in conversation at least if it were a possibility?? Granted, I didn't share the news with my mom until after I'd had an ultrasound and knew the pregnancy was viable, but I wanted to be sure before I shared anything. Plus.. I hadn't put on any pounds =( I lost 8 lbs from morning sickness.

I have a nice little bulge for a tummy and when I wear tight clothes it can look like Im pregnant. In my old job, a couple of peopel thought I was pregnant and one parent came upto me and asked if I was and had to tell her politely that I wasnt pregnant. My boss came and asked me but she was nice about it and asked me when it was the two of us and she didnt think I was as she knew I would of told her. From this I dont ask people if they are pregnant unless it comes up in a conversation.

I know a few girls that are skinny compaired to say me. But they have that "belly". I know one friend of mine is EXTREAMLLY skinny but wears a lot of empire waste shirts, she looks pregnant in them. Ever since I asked that one time I won't again!

One of my friends nicknamed it a 'penguin belly' as we was at a zoo once and we saw some penguins and they had a nice bulge for their bellies so I too ended up with a nickname!!

LOL! Some of those empire waist or very loose and flowing shirts/baby doll dresses could make anybody appear pregnant, even thin people!

I once asked an obviously pregnant lady when she was due. She said she had already had her baby like 10 months ago. I felt so horribly embarrassed. I never do that anymore, I am so very careful with that subject. I wish the ground could have swallowed me up.

I have never asked that question because I would feel really embaressed if they said no. I have thought some women might be pregnant and when I asked them how they were doing they said ok all things considered with being pregnant and all. Sometimes I am right sometimes wrong. I would neven ask though.

Yes and it wasn't funny either LOL. My sister was about to give birth to her first child and I was going to be there in the room with her husband as well. As we were coming out of the lift to the maternity ward, the nurse asked me if I was the one giving birth of course my sister and my brother in law burst out laughing and I turned bright red and walked off LOL I was wearing my sisters maternity jacket at the time (instead of holding it for her I put it on) - big mistake because in fact it did look like I was preggy.

thank fully I have not had this happen to me, or at least I do not recall ever making that mistake (at least verbally, I may have wondered in my head but did not say anything aloud) I venture that you were more embarrassed than the woman you asked, though.

Yep, guilty! I've done this twice to 2 of my colleagues - the first one I asked her if she was pregnant and she replied "No! Are you saying that I look fat??!!" Lucky for me she was a close friend and took it very well! The second one I said "You told me that you're not having any more babies!" Talk about jumping in with both feet! Again, lucky for me she was a close friend and told me that she has been stuffing her face with biscuits since her transfer! I'm happy to include that both of my friends have 2 kids a piece!

I've never asked anyone that before. I have been asked that in the past. I'm not fat or anything. It's just the way my stomach is shaped. Sometimes especially at work I look like I'm pregnant because of how my apron is. You never really know especially in your case. She bought a bunch of baby stuff. I would've asked the same thing.

I think any one can look pregnant in certain clothing such as an apron or an empire waste type of shirt. Thanks for responding!

Those clothes you picked out are so cute, who are you shopping for? (or 'who's the lucky baby?') - might be a better type of response. =)

I haven't done this nor has it happened to me BUT it happened to my best friend while she and I were at work!! This old man came in and commented and it upset her so badly she had to go hide in the storage room. I thought it was horrible and I could not believe he had the nerve to say such a thing. She didn't even have any kids yet and to me she didn't look pregnant. I swear some people just bust out with things and have no filter whatsoever! I try really hard to keep from making any due date comments to somebody unless they appear almost ready to pop, unless they comment first. This saves me (or anybody) from foot-in-mouth disease. When I was pregnant I didn't really show at all until I was 6+ months, at an ob appointment another mom-to-be actually asked me why I was there waiting lol! I told her I was about 16-17 weeks and she said she didn't even realize I was pregnant. It can happen both ways, see?

This happen to me TWICE--not once but TWO times, after the birth of my last daughter. One of the times, I am pushing her in the stoller and she was only a few months old and the lady ask me when I was due...I just stared at her. Really hurt my feelings :(

I haven't ever asked this question to anyone before even while working as a cashier but I have had it happen to me. One of my closest friends came to visit me for the first time about 2 months ago and told me I didn't look pregnant. My jaw hit the floor. I was like well I hope not! I had my son back in September and also got fixed at the time so I couldn't have anymore children. She was like, I wonder who I am thinking about then. *LOL*

Well...sometimes people assumes that when someone's looking for baby stuff at the store thinks that she's expecting a baby...i myself always look for baby stuff since I have a baby nephew and I like shopping for him.
