Positive Reinforcement & The American Left

Positive reinforcement used to be the new best way to get things accomplished. The concept was, that you can establish a better outlook among people by rewarding them for what they do right instead of punishing them for not doing enough.
It still holds today, but it's not as universal as it used to be. Now it seems like some are worthy of positive reinforcement, but others aren't. In other words, some are worthy of praise, but others are only worthy of scorn.
Apparently the United States of America falls in the second category. The American left will defend their scornful words by saying things like, "a real patriot is willing to point out the failures of the US as well as the successes", "a true American is willing to accept the fact that the US has done some awful things, as well as some really great things" or "we can't be proud of the good things while ignoring the bad thing."
But wait a minute, isn't that what the whole concept of "positive reinforcement" is about? Doesn't that fly in the face of "finding the good instead of concentrating on the bad?"
I'm still waiting for the far left to show the balance implied in "taking the good with the bad". I listen to the liberals running for president... I'm waiting for them to talk about how great it is to be an American. I'm waiting for any lefty leader to tell me how they love the United States without adding some qualifier or exception.
So, why is it that the left talks about "positive reinforcement" but doesn't seem to apply it to the country that offers the greatest opportunity for individual achievement in the world?

This is simple tha American Left hate what America stands for. America defeated their great country the Soviet Union. Their perfect world America would learn from the great U.S.S.R. American rebeled against the Left and elected Ronald Reagan. America is and should always be that shining city on a hill. If the Left could just make America more like England, France, Germany, or Canada everything would be perfect.

True. Even though the everyone (left, right and middle alike) celebrated the fall of the Berlin Wall, liberals never seemed to get over the fall of the Soviet Union. They have been bitter about it ever since.

I think the far left and the far right are so out there that they alienate more people than they attract to their cause.
I think in a normal election year you would be totally right, why is everyone complaining and not showing as much pride in America as normal.
But as I consider myself patriotic, its hard for me to be very proud right now when we are actively participating in what our country stood up for against after World War II. People who blindly defend the Iraq War but ignore the economy and other important issues. Its harder to be proud of what our country is doing when we are discussing how we will torture people inside the White House.
I don't think it makes anyone less patriotic if they aren't proud of how we currently do things. John McCain is a great man but I have no confidence in him when it comes to the economy or Iraq/Iran. I think all 3 of the remaining candidates are very proud Americans, just we won't hear much of it from Dem's because of some of W's recent legacy.

Ok, so they hate "W" and that makes them not-proud to be an American? That's really who I want for president, a four year old child! "Mommy did something I don't like, I hate mommy, I'm going to run away! Take my ball and go!" How pathetic! I will quote the words of that great singer songwriter Merle Haggard, "If you don't LOVE IT, LEAVE IT!" And that is how I feel about ANYONE who doesn't love this great country we live in! Do we do everything right? He11 no! Are we the only ones who air our OWN dirty laundry on world news every night? For sure! The only reason you Jormins and all other liberal democrats and all right wing republicans have the right to say anything we want is BECAUSE we live in this great country and don't you or ANYONE else forget that!!

That's pretty much what the Dem's are doing. You can't hate America because of W, but it doesn't mean they are "not-proud to be an American".
I don't what you are drinking this early Rodney but read my response over and I will tell you again I take offense to being called a Democrat. Democrats take much of the blame from me as well as W. I am not and never will be a Democrat. I live in this great country just as much as you. If you can shout louder that does not make you more patriotic my friend.

If you truly believe the lies you just spewed on me, then you my friend are no patriot. You are a fair weather friend at best.
Yes, some of our troops mistreated prisoners, but where they broke the law, they were tried and punished. That is something we should be proud of, not something to be ashamed of.
I'm not talking about questioning actions of a president, that, of course, is our right. I'm talking about how you hate our country and refuse to see any good in us as a nation because you buy into lies and stupidity.
