When getting a rescue dog is it wise to change their name?

I was talking to a friend about me getting a rescue dog and that my daughter wants to name it bumble.
She told me that it is a good idea to rename a rescue dog when you get one.
I personally have never heard of this and thought it would confuse the dog.
What is your view?

I think it would depend on the age of a dog to be honest, if it is fairly young then you could probably retrain it to answer to a new name. But if it is an older dog then I would have thought it might be best to keep the same name, it does not really matter about the name just the love it gets from it's new owner.

this kind thing also happened in my herritage and tradition. i think not only dogs or animals which being replaced their names after safe from any disaster. but even people names too
its not happened in each time they have safe from disaster but once or twice. they said to ride off bad luck of the previous name. well believe it or not but i see there is any changing of luck too 2 people like this

I think it's up to you. I've had rescue dogs where we named them and others where we kept the name they came with. Also a lot depends on how old the dog is. The older the dog they might not want to go by the new name. The younger the dog the quicker they will adjust. Our dog right now came with the name Lassie, she was a year and a half old so we just kept it that. Of course she looks like her name sake.

I've never heard of such a theory, it's an interesting one though. I've had a lot of rescued dogs over the years, and I only renamed one of them. The only reason I didn't rename the others was because they seemed to respond readily to the name they already had. The one who I did rename (because the kids couldn't pronounce it) responded ok with the name change and didn't seem to get confused in the least. I think that even if one has been renamed, it will gradually learn to come to it's new name and respond to it because they love you. Really, I can't see any advantage of renaming a rescued animal. Maybe she was just saying that to your daughter to make her feel ok with her idea to rename it?
