Hi megaplaza. hope I can be of some assistance to you as have some background knowledge in this area. How fit are you on the whole? Generally, you should concentrate on 60% of your daily fitness routine being cardio (running, rowing, swimming, speed walking, step, aerobics...you get the gist) 20% strength and tone (sit ups, push ups, weight's etc) 10% warm up and 10% cool down. I'm hoping you aren't just flying into your push ups from having cold muscles cos you're at risk of pulling or tearing muscles. The best advice I can give - although lengthly - is...have a snack of complex carbs (pasta, banana, rice) 45 mins prior to your workout and a pint of water. The complex carbs are slow release energy which enable you to sustain energy levels for longer. Water ensures muscles are hydrated and working at full capacity. Then do a forty minute session consisting of 4 mins warm up (walking briskly), 24 mins cardio (running), 8 mins strength and tone and then 4 mins cool down. I can assure you 100% this plan works and will enable you to build on the amount of push ups you do - though PLEASE make sure you do them correctly to avoid injury (hands just wider than shoulder width apart, chin tucked in, body stiff and smooth movements not bouncing up and down like a yo yo!). I've previously worked with Linford Christie's (British Athlete) trainer who said when training for the olympics years ago they only did 20 mins per day...the guy went on to win several medals!

nice 30-35 push ups i can do a max of 40 but then my arms really hurt! Normally i do like 20-25 push ups without getting tired. I'm going for 50 without getting tired. I hope you'll once get more than that but i think it will take a while for you to go to 35-40. You have to look it this way! It's like if you begin doing something the beginning is always easy but once you get further it's get harder and harder.
