So many people that I talk to there kids have or had head lice this year. My son has had them twice this year. We never had this problem until he started going to school. I had noticed he was scratching his head quite a lot. And I knew it right away, "Oh no It's head lice". So I was thinking does anyone know if there is anything that you can buy to prevent your kid from getting head lice. I have heard that bugs do not like garlic so I have started cooking with Garlic more. Have your kids experienced this year? Cause it seems like everywhere I turn someone is talking about it.

Thats awful a toddler with lice. That must have been hard because you can't use those lice killing shampoos on a toddlers head can you? I had to use them shampoos on my sons head and it really killed his scalp. His scalp it so dry now from it. And everything that I try for some reason I cannot get the oils back in his head.

when they were toodlers i dont use them the lice shampoo for i know it will hurt their young scalp. my mom makes some oil from coconut milk. she boils coconut milk and continiously stir it. its a long process before this coconut milk turns into oil but it is really very good for young kids scalp. when the oil warms up she dabs cotton and put it on my childrens scalp. then we pull the lice. it comes out easy and prevents it from coming back. the lice cant run because the oil makes it harder for them to run. you can pull the eggs too so it wont hatch on their head. this is the only solution i have for them when they were younger. i also make sure that their hair is dry already before they go to school because wet hair and the hot sun attracts lice. you can look at the link i paste at my response earlier. mayonaise can help if you dont know how to make coconut oil.

I know what you mean the thought of lice just makes a persons head itch. I agree it does seem to be school getting around all them different kids because he has never had them until he started going to school.

I don't think it's an epidemic this year, but I have had to deal with head lice for the first time ever, just this week.
My older son has been at our school for 5 yrs now (the twins 3 yrs now), and every year, each kid gets sent home with the warning letter at least once, letting us know that a case of head lice was discovered in their class. It's pretty common I think.
I've been rather lucky that I didn't have to deal with it before now, but I'm thinking I've nipped it in the bud. I hope I haven't jinxed things by saying that. haha!
I too started a thread about this just yesterday, and got a lot of wonderful advice and tips. Mayo seems to be the most preferred route to getting rid of the nasty critters. And as for prevention, hair gels and sprays as well as tea tree oil shampoos seem to be the way to go.

Thanks for the tips. I had no idea about the hair gel. I usually do not put anything in his hair. I will have to start using the gels or the sprays. My son doctor had told me to use the lice shampoo on his head which was a big mistake. His scalp is so dry from it now. I learned about the mayo after the fact.
