The health movement

Am I the only one that hates this health movement with a passion? These people want to basically look fit and healthy at the cost of taste. I find the health movement deplorable and shallow. Why do these people do this? For their health? Doubtful. While I'm sure there are those out there who care about health, many of them are just shallow people who want to lose a few pounds or be hip. Lets be honest with ourselves: who wants to live to 125 years old? who wants to live past 80? I don't want quantity, I want quality. When you get way up there you lose all the fun of life. Bad eyesight, shrinkage, brittle bones, loss of memory, inability to control your bladder and other biological functions. Of course theoretically a healthy diet would stave off these symptoms of old age but in practice you will end up with a nurse changing your diapers anyways. Is it worth it to stop eating good tasting food for a few extra theoretical years? Yes, theoretical, because for all you know tomorrow you get hit by a bus. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. And health is more about genetics in the end anyways. People can live to 100 on pork fat and wine for every single day of their lives. Why do I care? Because all these health nuts are taking away what I love. They are pushing for healthy ingredients and fake sugar. Well ya know what?? Splenda gives me diarrhea and tastes like crap. All the foods I love are being changed and made unavailable. WHERE ARE MY CHOICES? These people make me eat wheat bread instead of white, and take away soda vending machines. The health food market is a profitable, trendy business. So what do you think of the health food trend? Shallow and stupid or a good idea and necessary? Dan

You are right that not all people want healthy food. A good majority of the people want to eat junk food. I just don't think it is a realistic approach. Everything in moderation. I personally hate wheat bread. I would rather have a nice white bread grilled cheese sandwich once in awhile. I have learned to compromise though. I now tolerate and even like muligrain breads. We won't talk about soda. In schools and places where a person needs to learn about all manner of nutrition, not just junk food, I believe it is a necessary step. I am of the natural foods movement. I don't believe in artifical sweeteners and I try not to use sugar either. I am trying to get healthy sweets like fruits and honey in place of the others. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't, but at least I made the effort. For me, its not about being shallow or vein. I weigh alot. Tell me that you don't look at fat people with disgust... Many do. And we are publically ostrasized for eating crap. So you are not the only one in a losing situation. For me its either eat cardboard tasting food, or face miss/mr fitness leering and jeering at me. Not to mention the mere fact that it is uncomfortable to be fat. Physically as well as mentally. So I say do what works for you. There is no shortage of junk food by any means. If you don't want to eat the other stuff, dont! If you wanna die with a Snickers bar or Big Mac in your mouth, so be it! Live for you and forget the rest, because in the end it won't matter. As you stated, we all will take the dirt nap someday.
