Romario, Brazilian striker announced his retirement on MOnday at the age of 42, ending a career in which he won the World Cup, was involved in numerous controversies and claimed to have scored more than 1000 goals. What a great guy! He show his faithfulness to football so much! He just sets a good example to us!

Romario is, indeed, one of the great football players of our time. Last year, on his Birthday, I started a discussion asking if anyone remembers him. Sadly, I only got two responses, one of them yesterday from a Brazilian that only said who?. It's sad that people don't appreciate those players that play good quality football for so much time...

He is a pure football legend. I heard about him before and he is on his form and very popular in the 90s. Scoring 1000 goals is a very fantastic achievement. I hope he will do many thing as what Pele has done for the sake of football's improvement.

This guy is a legend. Him and stoichkov formed a very good partnership at Barcelona in the early 90's helping them win La Liga. The 1,000 goals is debateable as he claims goals scored as a kid in that total, in reality he scored 311 goals in 451 appearences for various clubs and 71 goals in 85 games for Brazil. To score that many goals at international level is a major achievement, but to score it from so few games is amazing. He has done extremely well to play up to the age of 42, youngsters today should look at him and take a leaf from his book that if you look after yourself you can prolong your career. This guy will be remembered as a true great in the world of football.
