surname of a woman after taking divorce

I am in Australia and here it is entirely up to the woman. I went back to my maiden name after my divorce. It was a name I was proud of. I also felt that I didn't want to use my ex husbands name anymore. I was no longer his wife so why would I use his name.

Hi...well here in the UK...if women marry they usually take the husbands surname....but then if they divorce they usually go back to their own surname..I ve known a few who have kept their married name after divorce....but that has really been for the sake of the children...otherwise it means that you have to keep changing the childrens surnames and they would become mixed up..

Hello, here in my country I dont know about after remarrying; but what I do know, if you are divorced and you want to continue to carry your ex-husband surname you can.

I too am from India Anu.. :-) But the woman here are now changing their thoughts. It's more law or regulation specifically to countries.. I would say it just depends on the woman. After marriage, you get your husband's surname and if you divorce, it's totally upto you. You might want to go back to using your earlier surname inhesrited from your dad. But if you still like your surname taken from you husband, then you could be addressed that way. Now it depends on how many documents you have with what name ;-) If you get into re-marriage, off course you would love to use your maiden surname or the new surname of your current husband than simply using your exhusband's name. All this is totally upto the woman and how much her surname matters to her!
