SNACKING: are you for it or not?

snacking - snack time is here

I am always hungry lately. I usually have 3 meals a day and that is sufficient to me. I avoid snacking because... you know, I want to go on a diet since spring is here and hoping I would look good in my swim suit by summer. But since I am having a baby now, I have the urge to eat in between meals. So my reason is really valid. I just wonder if how many of you - myLotters, who eat snacks. Do you think snack is an important part of a meal? Or do you consider it as a meal itself? Do you eat snack? How many times? Do you also eat mid-night snack?

I think that there is nothing wrong with snacking. Also, with you being pregnant snacking is a really good idea. Pregnant women need to consume more calories on a daily basis than non pregnant women.

I do love to eat snacks but when I arrived here, no work and all.. I just eat big lunch! tea in my morning and if I feel like eating toasted bread, I will but depends on my mood! no snacks except lipton tea or juice! In the afternoon, Sometimes bread again and If I had a really big lunch, I will not eat anything for dinner! I wonder why since I know I eat a lot but I'm thinking maybe because I'm not working and using my energy so I an not hungry that much as I used to be in my Country!

Well, I agree with you. When you are not doing anything, your mind always thinks that you are hungry. That's the best activity you can do anyway. From where are you by the way and where are you now? Just curious.

Hi There. I love snacks especially midnight snacks! My sisters, brother and cousin are staying at home a lot since it is their vacation so every week (when I don't have work), we order pizza or cook noodles then watch movies on the computer or just simply talk to each other. *smiles*

Oh, it reminds me of some good memories with my siblings years back. When my siblings and I lived in the city with my parents staying in the province. We were carefree and we would slipped out of the house at midnight and would have burger at Wendy's or pizza at Shakey's. Mom and Dad, had no idea and we ate what we were not supposed to eat then. And yes, we chatted till the morning.

I think i may possibly be the worst snacking to exist ever. Which is really a shame for my body. Whether I wanted to diet or not I know I couldn't. All I can do is try to turn my snacking into something healthy - by picking up an orange instead of chocolate, or dried fruit instead of sweets. Even when I'm not hungry I feel the need to keep myself amused by snacking. At least you have a good excuse. I can't imagine how I'd be if I were pregnant lol.

Well, eating makes me feel happy too. But then sometimes, I think as I aged... I change also my food preference. I used to like junk foods years ago but now, I'm into fruits. And yes, specially now that I am pregnant I really need to eat healthy food. thanks for sharing.

As a diabetic, I am encouraged to eat smaller portions at meals and have 2-3 snacks a day. For a long while I was very good at eating what I should and eating healthy snacks, as well, but I have gotten off track lately. I need to check the carbs on the foods that I eat and I don't always eat the right portions, but I have stayed healthy. I could be doing better, but do snack too much.

Oh, that must be tough. It's hard to be a diabetic. You have to watch everything that you eat and be cautious. Thanks for sharing.

First of all, you probably need to snack to keep all that nutrition going to you and the baby. Now I gained 50 pounds when I was pregnant - obviously too much snacking or not the right stuff. Snacking on healthier stuff is a good goal for me right now as well. I eat a midnight snack when I can't sleep and it seems to help me get sleepy. I eat about five meals a day.

I see, yes I agree I need to snack for my baby so that it will grow health and strong. The nutrients are important for its growth. I would probably gain weight too. Oh well, I can't do anything about it. thanks for sharing.

I know it's not healthy to eat snacks, but I still like eating them anyway. I still have my three important meals regularly everyday. But sometimes I will still eat snacks when I have free time to relax myself. Since I have a child. So I have to behave myself well and I seldom eat some snacks like potato chips in front of him:) I don't want he will eat a lot of these snacks as it's not good for children. I love China

I believe so too, because we usually have snacks that we can easily lay our hands on and the chips are the easiest and the most common thing we could get hold on to. That is why I don't have it in my grocery list.

I love snacks! And just like you I always feel hungry lately. I am pregnant now, and I was adviced to have small frequents feedings, so I eat snacks all the time because I don't get my stomache full during lunch or dinner but instead I eat snacks in between or after. I would ussually eat snacks after lunch. Not heavy snacks actually, maybe some bread with jam and fruit juice, or maybe fruit salad or just fruits. Then I eat early dinner, and sometime after that I would snack again, some bisquits or the like. I would actually have lots of cravings lately and that's what consists of my snacks.

CONGRATULATIONS to both of us! Wow, I am happy to know this. Is this your first? THis is my first baby... and I am 43 years old already. I just got married last year. Quite late huh? Well, just like you I snack all the time too. Fruits are in stock here so I just grab one when I feel hungry. Take care.

Sometimes, if the snack was a bit heavy and I took it quiet late - like 4pm or something, I will already consider that as a meal. I don't really eat that much snacks, but if I do, it's mostly corn chips or small biscuits. That's great news about your pregnancy. Do take care, always! I bet you'll look great in swimsuit with the baby bump.

That is a good thing to do. You need more healthy food and losing your appetite for the real food is not good. Fruits are the best snack. Thanks for sharing.

I love snacks as I cannot stop having it! Luckily, I am still quite fit because I always watch out what I put into the mouth. If I have snack between meals in the afternoon, I will have less amount of supper so that I won’t eat too much and gain weight. The snacks normally I have are a few piece of biscuits; a banana; an apple or a small packet of sun flower seeds etc. In fact, snack is not an important part of a meal, the problem is I love it.

I think snacking is a natural thing! Can you imagine early humans walking around and only eating three times a day! They ate when they were hungry or when the food was available! I think it would be best to snack lightly all day..that way your body can process the foods and the calories slowly through the day instead of taking on a big chunk three times a day! Grab an apple or a salad and snack up. Look out for those sugar processed foods...they will kill you no matter what!

I will. Sure I always have fruits stock around here so that when I get hungry I always have something to munch. I don't really eat big chunk of meal too so I really need to snack every now and then. thanks for sharing.

In my case, I'm now trying to discard in between meals because I did not like the results when I started including that in my daily habits. I gained weight. I don't fit in most clothes that I like. I don't think it's important anyway since I just stay at home and I got less things to do. In your case, as a busy housewife, it is different. You have to equip yourself with sufficient calories for energy. But you know what? I'm surprised to learn that Hebrews only ate twice a day in the past, during the Biblical times. I just don't know if it's still the same practice in this day and age. That means, we can survive even with just 3 meals a day without a snack.

You know, we (Filipinos) are only few of the nations in the world who really eat 3 meals a day. Here that is not a standard. We usually have 2 meals here too. Light breakfast, consist of cereals or pancake and supper. Lunch could be our snack and it is optional. We usually just get sandwiches or fruits or salad but not a complete meal. Then we have supper, usually when everyone is already home. This we really have to prepare and a complete meal so to speak with side dish and whatnot. Then, snack again if you feel like it. It's not like there that we really have time for each meal. We can have supper at 4pm or 6pm.

Oh that explains why you always feel hungry... Congratulations for the coming new angel. I do tend to eat midnight snacks since I have no time during daytime to go after for whatever I crave for the day. I always set aside some food to eat at night. I usually grab something while I am watching television or doing something on my PC. Just like now, I am munching NACHOS and just finished my ice cream
